Makes sense Ryzen 9 3900=65w. That's 40w less than my 3900X
What a difference for the same power! |

I've just come back online after a few years out. 2nd-8th Jun was my i9-12900 based workstation, then I just added a server with Dual EPYC 9354 CPUs at lunchtime - that graph still makes me smile :) The server could do more, but I need to run BOINC in a VM so I can still use VMs for work. Still, 60 cores dedicated to the BOINC VM

Definitely worthwhile bringing a server from my test lab online, think I'll add another one in the next few days and decommission my workstation - makes the office too hot having it grind away next to me :)

Out of curiosity does anyone have any task runtime information using the Zen4 AM 5 CPU?

Hi Bobby have you tried running your 3700x in eco mode?

No I have not. I have a Ryzen 9 3900X and Ryzen 5 3600X. On the 9 3900X I did something like an under clock.
----------------------------------------A hint I got in a thread here somewhere. The person said is would lower temperature without affecting the performance too much. It's the second time someone mentioned eco mode here. I'm on the verge of upgrading my i7-3770 machine to an AM4 board and CPU. Will look for that option. Just need to hunt for a CPU. Those 65w CPUs are hard to find. I'll search for that link. Should not be too hard. Here is what I did. The link points to a flynryan post followed by my 2 posts about what I changed and actually worked. https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=653672 [Edit 1 times, last edit by BobbyB at Jun 12, 2023 7:59:56 PM] |

if you can't be bothered messing around with voltages you just have to go into the bios and select eco mode. You will lose around 200mhz but cooler and less power. There are a lot of undervolting guides for the 3900x on youtube if you are interested.

I never saw an eco mode but will look for it in the replacement mobo I am putting together to replace the i7-3770.
----------------------------------------The 2 changes I did make sorta did the trick by lowering temp. It was a bit of undervolting. [Edit 4 times, last edit by BobbyB at Jun 13, 2023 2:23:03 PM] |

Now I know why I never saw eco mode. It's a Windows program and the machine runs Ubuntu. After some digging last night I figured this out.

eco mode and undervolting is the same thing really. Just limits TDP.
