Re: SCC Project starts a new phase in their quest for curing childhood cancers

I am in joining running this project, under statistics it says the project is "completed". Hopefully this will be able to be changed to "active"
I wish Linux was as easy to use as windows and would allow you to run all of the applications that run on Windows. I guessed the advantage of running SCC on Windows is you get more run time for badges. I am not wanting to start a discussion on Linux in this thread. I am just commenting from my perspective

You don't get more runtime. You get (a lot) more tasks done. IIRC the VINA sciences run 50-60% faster on Linux than on Windows.

Yes we are both right

@Sgt Jon
thanks for the link might check it out

should I be worried about the occasional invalid? I've only had 2 out of 226 be invalid (that I noticed) so 1%. I don't get any invalids from other projects. Is this normal for SCC or should I stop my machine from doing SCC

It's not normal; in comparison, since SCC1's restart on 2023-04-21, I have run over 10,000 SCC1-tasks on Android and Linux (Intel and AMD) and there haven't been any Invalids for me.
Should you be worried? I don't think so, but it would be good to keep the finger on the pulse.

Apparently so.

Several of my hosts have now run out (or at least very low) on SCC WUs, let's hope someone is feeding the hopper again soon...

That's the hope, however that somebody I think is asleep at the wheel.
Dry here both SCC and MCM.
Cheers

Re: SCC Project starts a new phase in their quest for curing childhood cancers

Unixchick, what I forgot to add/say/write: if you experience any odd behaviour like an Invalid result, would you please try to report about it, preferably with the URL of the workunit or its ID (the so-called workunit-ID). In this way we - the volunteers - have an idea of any anomalies or abnormalities and we have something to relate to our own results or to put it in perspective.

Thank you, smile
Adri

The invalid result is mine.

all the ones I've done since have been valid (the ones validated of course)

Re: SCC Project starts a new phase in their quest for curing childhood cancers

I'll reach the 90 day badge in a week or two (I do not crunch many hours/day), and after that I will forget about SCC totally. It's unbearably slow, and gives ridiculously low credit/points, on Windows. Much better to spend the electricity on other WCG projects, like MCM and OPNG (and OPN1 if and when it comes back)

I really had forgotten, how bad SCC runs on Windows.
