@gordonbb
I have a suggestion which might work to save your completed work units: 1) Copy each of the individual BOINC data directories and its sub-directories to an external device such as an external USB hard drive. 2) Rebuild your 4 replacement rigs including installing BOINC. 3) Close BOINC 4) Copy one of the saved BOINC data directories and its sub-directories to replace the newly installed BOINC data directory. 5) Start BOINC The above does work when the underlying hardware has not changed. It depends on how much checking BOINC does between the hardware and operating system it is running on and what may be stored within the files in the BOINC data directory. I would suggest that you try to restore the BOINC data directory to CPUs of a similar speed otherwise the points will be vastly wrong. More experienced BOINC users may have thoughts on whether the suggested process is worth trying. |

It does seem like alot of work to save some work units which would get re-issued if they are not returned. However, I see the point about not wasting the work, especially if there is a substantial amount there. Cheers

If you are referring with "you" as the folks at WCG, then you don't know about the differences of running a PC/home computer vs. running a (cluster of) server(s) with network attached storage. And that a good part of that current work on their end is transferring data from one (temporary) data storage to another (new) one... Well, no. As no part of your post, just like this one, was marked as a quote.You obviously didn't read who I was replying to...so.....next Certainly aren't not good a reading and doing math. Dr. Jurisica posted: Those .3TB were not an issue, THAT could have been a type but.So I was off by .3TB at that point in time...I see your one that likes rub peoples faces into the dirt if they make a mistake. To me it sounds like end of the month or sometime next month before the system is fixed and running properly. It certainly will not be monday. tthis was certainly far off...So just take your snottiness and holier than though attitude someplace else. ...Ralf |

@gordonbb : re ca05065's suggestion above about how to save your completed work:
BOINC may be fussy if the device used to upload the results is not the one to which they were originally sent. As a precaution, before uploading, I'd at least temporarily change the name of the uploading device to match the name of the one that received them. In Windows the name may be in Control Panel >> System. Better still, if you are keeping the system hard drives from your dismantled devices, and they would boot as-is in one of the machines you are keeping, temporarily swap in and boot each of the these drives to do its uploads. Good luck. |

Thank you all for suggestion - the move to a new storage is already in place - but we will monitor it - and hopefully all goes well from there. Indeed - the first part would be not to start new WUs - but to download existing work. Hopefully, synchronization across databases will not run into unforeseen dependencies. Well, any updates on the whole transfer/restart issue?Ralf |

I'm not going anywhere. I'll stay until either I die, or WCG dies, whichever comes first.
