---------------------------------------- I was diagnosed 7 years ago with leiomyosarcoma, so have been trying to focus on crunching for the sarcoma project. :-( Now I'm putting my 3 measly systems to sleep instead of letting them run 24x7 for research. :-( Sir: You have my sympathies; I hope your health allows you to live as fully as you wish. When they are running, your three systems probably draw about $5 or $10 per month in electricity, yes? If you are going to shut them off, can you please re-direct that $5 or $10 to the donation page for WCG? https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/donations Your contribution will help to reverse the 'depressing current state of affairs', and allow us all to keep up the fight against cancer. Thank you for any donation you can make. ![]() |

I spent $800-$1000 per month in electricity. I do Rosetta(#24 in the world), Folding@home(#21 in the world) and WCG(number 61 in the world). I am spending more than my budget, and adding more cost for a system that I have no confidence will ever come back is out of the question.

Hello Everyone, It seems like I can do and see some things. I have 16 Tasks waiting for something, to maybe be accepted back into the system. I guess we are all waiting for things to get back to normal. Hope all goes well. At least it is not my network and computer that is down. Hope all is well with EVERYONE.

Just a point in regards to IBM:
IBM is not doing well. They haven't been doing well in some years and they've been shedding things a lot more value than WCG. In the last few years, I think they were down to just a couple paid folks at WCG. I suspect IBM was trying to shed WCG without a public backlash and Krembil/J Labs was a convenient place to offload it to. If IBM really cared about WCG, they would have been in step with the new folks to make sure they could properly and fully transition to new systems. As it was, it feels almost like starting from scratch. I'm not saying this as an excuse, just that the new owners shouldn't take the full blunt of the blame. All things considered with IBM, if they can't reverse their downward spiral, they might end up in a position where WCG would have ended up in the same spot. |

Why can't WCG get big sponsors like Rosetta? Is it because they are not focused on one project or are a host network and not a actual science project?

With all due respect, I very much doubt that the "public backlash" question remotely came into the picture at IBM. We are, at the end of the day, a bunch of geeks, and a very small bunch, at that. |

If WCG needs money why not start a Patreon/ Subscribe Star, Sell merch through Spring (mugs and tshirts and stuff) accept paypal donations etc. I'm sure people would help.

I donated 50 bucks today. I'm willing to do that monthly. But Patreon is a good idea.

I donated 50 bucks today. I'm willing to do that monthly. But Patreon is a good idea. I'll second that. I already support multiple firearms related channels that way. In addition to the reoccurring subscription donations, it also provides an easy way to communicate directly with those people who are supporting you.

Doctor Jurasica,
How about double points for a few weeks once the work servers are running to help make up the downtime?? |
