Re: Hardware Recovery Update

mine would not get any new work from other projects - it'd say "Got no tasks, don't need". I had to manually delete all the completed tasks from the upload queue to make it take new tasks.

later i learned suspending WCG would've also worked, and that's what i did on my phones.

This is the sort of information that should've been provided by WCG on Day 1: How to manage WCG so we can keep using BOINC while WCG is not functioning.

Re: Hardware Recovery Update

When things are ready, might it be possible to stage users coming back in from different time zones, states, countries, to maybe control it into a staged process and to bring it up in a controlled manner. Maybe even selecting by user login control??

Re: Hardware Recovery Update

All of us have work waiting to upload, it has been like that for a while. Threatening to dump all that work seems rather petulant.
And adds no value. Like the recovery at Krembil is going to proceed any more quickly in response?
No, It's not a threat or being petulant just a statement. I'm moving at the end of the month and I have to consolidate 10 rigs down to 4 which means having to blow them apart and re-install from scratch. I've been holding off on this for three weeks now and it can't wait any longer.

An letting Krembil know that some of us have had enough might help them understand that their approach to this transition and their (lack of adequate) response to issues has lost the trust of many volunteers.

My guess is that this is due to you messing with the config files for the various projects.
I have set more than a dozen hosts to run Einstein@Home and/or Rosetta@Home while waiting with all the stuck WCG WUs and they are working just fine. All stock installed, not messed with any settings manually, whatsoever...

Re: Hardware Recovery Update

i don't... know even what that means. I set my storage to like 100GB,

I might be contributing for a while, but I don't know much of anything about how to change things ... It's been basically plug-and-play on this machine since I got this computer in 2015. The only thing I changed is I have the ARP set to Unlimited.

Don't know what to tell you.

My programming laptop right to my left has about 80 MCM1/OPN1/OPNG WU sitting on uploading since March 1st (a handful "Ready to report" disappeared on Thursday) and since that time, I have set Einstein@Home to receive new work (didn't touch WCG) and it is generating roughly 150,000 points per day on various E@H projects without doing anything else. So do as I mentioned, about another dozen hosts (including another GPU capable one).

Nothing to delete, nothing to suspend...

Once WCG becomes operational again, I will just set E@H (or R@H on other hosts) to not receive new tasks, so they will finish those other projects WUs in progress or ready to start and will slowly start receiving and crunching WCG WUs (as available)....

Re: Hardware Recovery Update

Not really, those are probably history.

Re: Hardware Recovery Update

If you are referring with "you" as the folks at WCG, then you don't know about the differences of running a PC/home computer vs. running a (cluster of) server(s) with network attached storage. And that a good part of that current work on their end is transferring data from one (temporary) data storage to another (new) one...

You obviously didn't read who I was replying to...so.....next

Certainly aren't not good a reading and doing math. Dr. Jurisica posted:

So I was off by .3TB at that point in time...I see your one that likes rub peoples faces into the dirt if they make a mistake.

So just take your snottiness and holier than though attitude someplace else.

Re: Hardware Recovery Update

Donated.

You slipped the "we need to find funding" bit in there very quietly, but the need is great, I'm sure.
