It was "fixed" a few times in the past too. And then Krembil re-introduced the download problems again. Multiple times. Well, that's why I tried to avoid the "f-word" in my previous post... Ralf |

Well, that was fast. Download worked OK for a few hours this afternoon indeed.
However, Krembil has decided to reintroduce the download errors. Everything is backing-off and retrying again. |

Well, something got changed (I am careful at this point not to say "fixed", as that might jinx it), but since late last night and during the night, those download problems have all but disappeared. As far as I can tell the distribution of (new) ARP1-tasks has stopped. That's what happened last time, too: The distribution of ARP1-tasks stopped and the download problems, too. The distribution of ARP1-tasks started and the download problems, too. Can anyone else confirm this? (times are local, 12:00 = 10:00 UTC) Sep 19 23:41:54 - start of download problems Sep 19 23:48:05 - start of a surge of ARP1-tasks downloading Sep 22 19:51:38 - end of reception of normal (new) ARP1-tasks Sep 23 01:09:54 - receiving one resend of an ARP1-task Now the transient errors are dwindling down since 23 September. Latest news: a new surge of ARP1-tasks has just begun trickling in. (16:00 UTC) |

All my machines are now completely clogged with with transient errors. In total more than 300 WU's spread over 3 machines are backing off now.
----------------------------------------The situation seems to be worsening in the last few days (except a few hours this afternoon, when it was better, until Krembil decided to reintroduce the problems). [Edit 1 times, last edit by wildhagen at Sep 23, 2022 4:33:50 PM] |

Well, something got changed (I am careful at this point not to say "fixed", as that might jinx it), but since late last night and during the night, those download problems have all but disappeared. As far as I can tell the distribution of (new) ARP1-tasks has stopped. That's what happened last time, too: I think the same conclusion could be drawn when looking at when OPNG WUs are being distributed (or not). The distribution of ARP1-tasks stopped and the download problems, too. The distribution of ARP1-tasks started and the download problems, too. Can anyone else confirm this? And that would put a wrench into the sprocket of any idea that the download problems and ARP1 WU distribution are causal related. I rather think that the ARP1 download problems just get more pronounced when there is a general issue of getting a connection to the download server(s) in the first place. I think that a conclusion to the contrary could only be drawn if there would be a distinct (12-24h) difference between the release of ARP1 and OPNG (and to some degree OPN1). The pattern between those two (and a half) projects is simply different. ARP1 is a rather small(ish) number of WUs, each with several rather large data files (+10MB IIRC), while OPNG is a rather huge number of WUs, each with a number of rather small(ish) data files. There are probably 1000x (don't pin me on that exact number) more connections tried to be made with OPNG (and OPN1 combined) than with ARP1. A more decisive answer to this could only be made if there would be better communication from Krembil's techs, them clearly separating the release of (test!) WUs from each of those two projects, and thus getting a better qualified response from the volunteers. Ralf |

I got my latest ARP1 WU at 2022-09-20 13:06:51 UTC, and returned it on 2022-09-23 03:21:43 UTC. It was due 2022-09-26 13:06:51 UTC. https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/contribution/workunit/168966740

All my machines are now completely clogged with with transient errors. In total more than 300 WU's spread over 3 machines are backing off now. Are you seeing this NOW? The situation seems to be worsening in the last few days (except a few hours this afternoon, when it was better, until Krembil decided to reintroduce the problems). After being "OK" for a few days last week, for me, the download problems started Sunday night/Monday morning and got progressively worse until yesterday. Then late last night (I didn't get to sleep until well after midnight) things seemed to "clear up" and I haven't seen any stuck downloads on any of the machines here in the office (about a dozen, including my two "top crunchers") all morning since I got back up around 6:30am PDT.I now did notice though that the supply of OPNG WUs has pretty much dried up, though the same machines now got a boatload of OPN1 WUs. sprinkled in with some MCM1 resends (_2 mostly). Ralf PS: Of course , just when I had posted this, my programming laptop (which likes to crunch through OPNG like there is no tomorrow) got a metric ton equivalent of OPNG WUs and immediately the download problems started again... Thinking downloading problems had been resolved, I put a couple of my systems back online.
<sigh> too soon. Problems remain. Maybe we need Dorothy to sing: “Somewhere over….” |

Thinking downloading problems had been resolved, I put a couple of my systems back online. So what you're saying is that the dark rabbit hole leads to Toronto, Canada? <sigh> too soon. Problems remain. Maybe we need Dorothy to sing: “Somewhere over….” Let's just hope we don't hear a scarecrow singing or talking... Ralf |
