My downloads have just started coming through in the past couple of hours, after being stalled for a long time. I dare say the short work units (especially the GPU tasks) are adding an enormous load onto the balancer and servers with respect to number of connections hitting them.

I seem to have ran out of GPU tasks... maybe the batch is over and the queue problem will temporarily go away until next batch?

No regular workunits this morning, only GPU workunits that refuse to download.

While the networking situation is "better", it's far from "good" or resolved. Downloading WUs is still very sporadic.

I have recently observed that when I poll for more work units, there are none available. But, if a WU is RETURNED COMPLETED, the system sends me replacement(s). Which gives me about an even matchup of WUs with the number of threads that particular machine can support.
So, it would APPEAR that Krembil is limiting WU availability to "exchanges only". Perhaps to cut down on the RETRYs - both the manual and automatically (script) generated varieties. If this is the case, I HOPE it is being done as in interim means to reduce the apparent DDOS symptoms caused, I believe, by a large number of impatient and anxious volunteers attempting to get around the http transient errors and be more productive and crunch more WU. But time will tell. |

I think the OPNG validator, went on vacation at around 17:15 UTC. I don't know about the validators for the other projects though, since I only run OPNG.

But time will tell. I don't believe that's the case, as my machine goes through periods of no work being done, while waiting for uploads or downloads to complete. But yes, people mashing the update button doesn't help the system, and it's an incredibly wasteful use of one's time. “Where an excess of power prevails, property of no sort is duly respected. They’re not offering exchanges. I had 34 threads running and a large queue waiting to run when I went to bed last night and 5 in a clogged download queue this morning. Krembil doesn’t want WUs run is all I can conclude. No more community grid. IBM threw up they’re selfish hands and walked away. Prove me wrong by sending WUs.

Just Jake,
You seem to have forgotten that we are still in a testing phase. If anything, please be patient. There's another day tomorrow. |

Of course we all know we're in a testing phase. That should imply there is a plan, and they're testing to see if that plan works.
Unfortunately, even in the rare detailed explanations, I haven't read anything that they couldn't have found out early in the many, many months they've been 'busy' with this project. It's just been a succession of disappointments. Communication interns whose communication frequency is declinging along a logarithmic curve, successfully brought up servers that just make everything die in the 2 days following, and vague hopeful updates like 'tuning should improve it further' that just don't give the impression there was a working system, they understand how it worked, they have a plan and they're working towards a specific goal in a fixed time. |
