I saw I had one. I paused DENIS@home to see if I could get some more and I got 2 more. Nothing stuck in the queue.

Lot's of download errors now. I got some MCM1, but it' hard to get the files downloaded. Likewise, I have my first couple of MCM work-units waiting for download to complete. The log shows the transient HTTP error message. For example: 10/07/2022 19:20:36 | World Community Grid | Temporarily failed download of MCM1_0190247_5232_MCM1_0190247_5232.txt: transient HTTP error Pleased to report my two MCM workunits also came through eventually (without a manual retry) a couple of hours ago. Great progress! |

In the last three days, I have gotten 66 wu's in total. Majority have been MCM but started getting OPN1 yesterday. No OPNG yet. All have been for my Windows machines until the last one. It's a _2 MCM sent to one of my Ubuntu machines. All the wu's received are either in process, valid, or pending validation. I would expect Kembril is taking things one little step at a time and OPNG's will come in time.
----------------------------------------We all owe Kembril our gratiutide. I expect they saved WCG. IBM has never been able to display any consistency in meeting its revenue goals so it has to be very aggressive at controlling expenses in order to meet EPS targets that execs live and die by. In its early days, WCG enjoyed strong support from the IBM CFO. Those days are long gone though. I fully believe IBM decided to kill WCG but someone was able to offer the various research teams the chance to pick it up. I'm betting the impact of losing WCG on Kembril's research was going to be great enough that they bit the bullet and stepped forward. I'm sure they faced a drop dead date so they had little to no opportunity to put together any kind of real migration plan other than just this side of controlled chaos. I won't be surprised if they run into issues dealing with the bandwidth of WCG which is beyond killer. In time after the dust settles, I suspect they may well start looking at the complexities on the WCG server side and look at the possibilities of simplifying things. While they are bound to have a few bureaucratic and policy constraints, those have to pale in comparison to what existed at IBM. In time, we may actually see them address some of the issues we crunchers have pleaded and begged about, things that stood absolutely zero chance at IBM. Let's give the Kembril team the chance they deserve. I don't expect us to ever truly know just what the past 6-9 months have been like for them but it probably has taken the concept of trail by fire to levels they've never known or expected. |

This sounds quite on target for a large bureaucratic organization whos individual project champion has moved on. I am happy for any computing I can do that is useful to researchers and thank Krembil for keeping WCG going. It is a great opportunity for researchers to get computational work done yet not have to manage the project overhead. |

Perhaps Krembil was given the computing equivalent of a large basket of assorted car parts, and given a Good Luck wave out the door...

IBM just recently sold its Watson Health division. WCG is just a speck compared to that.

I second that. I worked for IBM in the late '90s & early 2000's and at times struggled with what I felt was "doing the right thing" and sales / financial targets were not always necessarily aligned! They have impressive technology and capabilities but look for scale. I expect that WCG was a useful test-bed for grid computing but was of decreasing value to them over time. At least they didn't pull the plug immediately but gave Krembil six months to prepare. In the event it proved more challenging than Krembil anticipated but all credit to them for trying hard even if the last few months must have been bumpy and stressful. |

I had been receiving work units for Windows, but not Linux until today. Just got 30 OPN for one Linux system. No problems downloading. I wonder if MCM is not far behind.
