in order not to ruin the SSD of my brandnew cruncher, I installed a RamDisk today. Works perfectly

Yeah, if I had BOINC on an SSD, I would definitely do that too. On my computer with a GTX980 running 3 tasks at a time + 1 task on the iGPU, I have collected some data with HWinfo during 20 hours of full time crunching. That computer isn't doing anything other than crunching WCG GPU tasks, no CPU tasks, or browsing, or anything else.
----------------------------------------The HD was active 23% of the time. Average writing to the HD was 10 MB/second. I can only imaging what the result would be with a modern GPU, running maybe 8 or more tasks at a time, or those who have multiple modern GPU's in their computer. Things are going smoothly here, with my main rig happily munching away on GPU work.
Thanks, uplinger, and everyone else involved! |

With 16 jobs and 16T my RTX3060 Ti is about maxed out. There are times when usage even drops to 0% but usually it's up about 99%. It's paired with a i7-10700 so that could be a limiting factor as it's maxed out. SSD usage is really a problem so I'll be setting up a RAM Disk soon although I don't have a UPS. It's about 70MB/s and gets over 110 at times.
----------------------------------------On the plus side for the first 12 hour statistics today it achieved 11,954,300 points on 1101 results. Yesterday with the server issues it only reached 18.3M points for the day so it shows how well things are running now. Good work Keith! ![]() |

Just moved the BOINC_Data directories to hard drives. The NVMEs are grateful for the rest.

If you only put the slots folder into the RAM disk, I would like to know what the MB/s writes goes down to. By the way, if a 70MB/s writes average is sustained for 1 year, that is roughly 2200 TB(2.2PB) written. ![]() |

If you only put the slots folder into the RAM disk ... I had tried this some time ago on another occasion - it did not work. So I needed to move the complete data directory, then it worked. |
