Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Yeah, it really does thrash the SSD. That is why I switched to running off of a ramdisk that syncs to disk on shutdown/reboot. It definitely cut down the writing to my SSD a lot.

Would you mind sharing how you set that up?
I mean I probably could stick something together on my own but why reinvent the wheel if there's a working solution already ^^
I'm also wondering if it would be enough to have the ./slots dir in memory or it has the whole boinc working directory

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Somewhere around here I've seen an app_config setting to run more than 1 wu at a time. Found it.
At first glance I think my Radeon VII is underutilized with 1 wu. The load constantly jumps from 1% - 99% like a yo-yo. Run times are also pretty random. 1:44 - 2:50 min with my cpu set to 50% usage. When I was running it at 93% cpu usage (16 core 3950X) the run times were over 4min. This project must need a few spare CPU threads to run the best times.
I guess like all projects, it takes a bit of juggling to set the cpu/gpu ratio.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Another option would be to put your boinc directory on a cheap spinny drive or ISCSI nas.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Some initial stats:

We are loading into BOINC about 8000 work units every minute. While we have a server that is in recovery mode, so IO should be pretty maxed out right now :)

Thanks,
-Uplinger

It is , upload / download is struggling. With retry it often works.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

I've used primo ramdisk in the past. Can take a try for this. I was putting in more of a request to the devs to keep their cache in RAM for a task that takes 2.5 mins.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Stats run is going to start in about an hour and a half. It could get ugly..... That should be a good database test

My app_config runs 3 wu on nvidia and 1 on intel, one cpu for every gpu wu:
<app_config>
<app>
<name>opng</name>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.33</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>1</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
<app_version>
<app_name>opng</app_name>
<plan_class>opencl_intel_gpu_102</plan_class>
<ngpus>1</ngpus>
</app_version>
<report_results_immediately/>
</app_config>

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Now we´re talking, got 50 WUs on 1 host with 1 GPU.

btw what is the cache limit?

50 per host

incorrect.

50 per GPU
up to 200 max per host

ask me how I know cool

GPU app so host = GPU

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

I wonder if Uplinger planned to babysit the servers through the entire night. If not, the entire system, of course including all other projects, will probably come crashing down, like a ton of bricks.

The other option, is to pause this test over night.
