Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Well, this test will not last for 3 days. 30000 batches will be finished in less than one day.
Edit: If the system can handle the load for that long.....

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Currently the cache limit is set to 50 per gpu. This is of course a starting value, we may modify that in the future.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

I don't need / want to store a huge batch of local work if I get new ones when they are finished.

You can set the max number of WU in Device Profiles -> Project Limits -> OpenPandemics - COVID-19 instead than Unlimited

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

I'm game. Got a 3090 ready to help when I'm not gaming.

Tasks taking about 2.5 mins on a 3090. Should be able to knock out over 500 tasks a day. Probably closer to 2500 a day if I get some other PCs I have access to on it. 1 task at a time. Card is between 0-75% utilization and when used looks like is using Copy. CPU is an Intel i9-10850k so decently fast but not a 3090 lol. Looks like there may be something in the CPU hanging up the GPU's full potential.

Since it looks like it is only using the GPU 10-20% of the time by a rough guess, you could have 5-10 tasks sharing the GPU if you had enough VRAM and handled the memory right.

Also seeing some high disk usage of about 13-20 Mbps for the task.

You should be able to run multiple at the same time with a rtx 3090. I am running 4 at a time to have my rtx 2060m mostly loaded.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

I mean I'm good in the near term as I've got a good M.2 SSD with a lot of cycles but cache thrashing is just inefficient coding as it takes time away from the task at hand. It's much faster to go from the CPU to memory to the GPU and back than to have to throw in going to the HDD in that process. Just a lot of time spent something that you don't need to do that takes away from the greater goal.

Yeah, it really does thrash the SSD. That is why I switched to running off of a ramdisk that syncs to disk on shutdown/reboot. It definitely cut down the writing to my SSD a lot.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Not seeing how you are able to do that on Windows 10. I have a bunch of GPU tasks queued but the one being worked on says it's using 1 GPU. I only have 1 so idk how to fraction it out. I tried suspending the non-GPU tasks and still I only get 1 GPU task running.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

An enterprise level SSD was never a requirement before, and assuredly when the program is updated to be more efficient, will not be a requirement going forward.

Nonetheless, if you want to recommend a particular model or give away some of your spares, I encourage you to make a post in the hardware forum.

Re: OpenPandemics - GPU Stress Test

Yummy - 10 Nvidia GPUs on it now. Just waiting for one other to finish a Folding@Home WU then I'll add that too.

I'm not getting 50 tasks per GPU on these systems so I'm running a Cron job to update every 15 minutes to keep the systems filled.
