Since this is the Beta thread, it should be closed.

I still have an "issue" I'd like to post.
----------------------------------------The credits one receives for 1 GPU workunit done is (compared to a CPU workunit) staggering in comparison. That is something to ponder about. I received 1 GPU WU yesterday, and it finished in 1m56s on my 2070 Super. A CPU WU is processed on my AMD 3950X in about 1,5 hour (MCM and OPN projects). For the CPU WU I receive about 600 points, while the GPU results in a (much) higher amount. Admitted, these projects facilitate the support for scientific research. Not fussing about points. Yet there is no justification in differences regarding weighing the amount of credits one receives (in my opinion). This should receive some attention from those in charge. Edit: I see Uplinger posted an explanation about how much credits a GPU WU receives. There are pro's and cons about it though. [Edit 1 times, last edit by DE KOMETEN at Apr 8, 2021 1:22:45 PM] |

If you read through the beta forums for this project you will see that the amount of work done by a GPU task is staggering in comparison to the amount of work done by a CPU task.

If you read through the beta forums for this project you will see that the amount of work done by a GPU task is staggering in comparison to the amount of work done by a CPU task. That's true yes. And the amount of costs for electricity and costs for PC's is on the otherhand (compared to a GPU) also 'staggering'. So it boils down to what you want credits given for: the costs volonteers make or the results. Or somewhere between these opposites. Hence my question about '"ponder this". will the GPU tasks work with Ampere cards? The reason why I am asking is that I will get 2 RTX3070 in the near future. No reason it shouldn't. AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

Yes it works. I have tested with 3060Ti and 3070.

Good question! Don't know, I haven't methodically looked through all of my tasks wingment to see what hardware was run.
----------------------------------------Thinking that probably since the application is OpenCL based with a wrapper, any card that has good OpenCL driver components, it should work. There is a post somewhere here listing the performance of various types of cards running the app but I can't find it now. Don't remember if any Ampere cards were listed. Oh just remembered my teammate says he has the project running on his RTX 3070 which has been idle since GPUGrid still does not support it. So the answer to your question, is yes, go ahead and get your unobtainium 3070's if you can find them. A proud member of the OFA (Old Farts Association) |

So the answer to your question, is yes, go ahead and get your unobtainium 3070's if you can find them. GPUGrid currently has almost no workunits, so there is no point in them adding support for more GPUs at present. I'd prefer an unobtainium 3060 - the power supply in my computer is not adequate for a 3070. |

10 batches loaded, batches 500-509. There are about 5000 work units in total for this short beta. Again, the deadlines are set to 36 hours so it'll push your machine to have them towards the top of the queue. @nanoprobe, thanks for letting @Grumpy Swede know the change. I have posted lots of details in the past few weeks. Yes, the dlg file was something I was hopeful we would be able to get away from using for validation. However it is still needed and so the removal of that would not be wise. Everything would be invalid :P Again, thanks to everyone for their help with the beta tests! I'm probably going to jinx myself again, but I am hopeful these 10 batches should be the last beta. Thanks, -Uplinger Since the WU's coming down to my 550fx (Lexa) are not beta; this was a correct assessment? These production units work in a few minutes on that card; the last beta would run for many, many hours before being cancelled |
