I'm a user of BOINC , interested in WCG too.
I saw you use BOINC for your Linux users. I think it would be a good idea to create a Windows BOINC client too for all users of BOINC ( 307 000 BOINC user on 1st of November). I will support you a lot if it become true. Sorry for my english. ps: Good idea for the french site too ;) |

Thank you for your comments and suggestion - at this time we are using the United Devices software for our windows client.

I think it ain't that much work since you already developt boinc serversoftware for the WCG and such (can be wrong though)
But boinc has an impressive userbase... |

We are very seriously considering it We need to spend some time making sure that the integration between BOINC, the website and UD is working correctly in addition to making sure that Linux BOINC clients are working properly. Once that is complete and we are confident of the stability and scalability we will take a good look at that. Kevin |

Kevin I believe you, just wanted to note that i'm pro too Btw how will the boinc credits system be integrated into the WCG points system? Will it be just diveded by a constant number or does the WCG app still do the regular benchmark at the end of workunit? Owyeah, another pro for boinc: It supports muliteprocessor machines and hypertrading machines. We can test out what use hypertrading has ... Pconfig,
----------------------------------------There is information about the points integration here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=linpointscalc I expect there will be a lot of confusion on this issue. We decided to leave the BOINC credit system as it is so that we can allow the BOINC stats sites to pull our stats and display them on their sites. We also had to make sure that devices running BOINC were getting the same amount of credit as devices running UD so we are uplifting the BOINC points as we import them into the website so that they are on the same scale as UD points. For those who aren't familiar, I am talking about sites such as: http://www.boincsynergy.com/stats/index.php http://www.boincstats.com/ Kevin [Edit 2 times, last edit by knreed at Nov 1, 2005 6:42:53 PM] |

Coincidentally, here is a BOINC opinion that was posted over at the other place today:

The user interface was quite unprofessional and the corresponding websites (project websites) were even worse. So now I'm back to using UD. UD is so much simpler to use, and the user interface is very nice as well. Keep up the good work UD!

Why do you let the boinc system validate workunits and don't do that (as far as i know) for the windows system? Also, did you check out the correctness about the constant (10) for importing the stats into the UD system? Cause what i noticed is that Intel systems do very good in boinc's benchmark (as good as corresponding AMD systems) but in the UD benchmarking system AMD's seem to perform way better then the Intels. I don't realy know wich realy calculates faster anyway. But i know we're doing this for the science but i love the competition spirit too so it would be cool to have it as correct as possible Greetings (Owyeah is the URL to the boinc XML's published somewhere already? I'll notice the statspage admins about this when i can find it) After some research (muahaha ) i found the url of the xml's but they're still empty. Any idea on when you're going to turn on this feature in the boinc server software? https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/stats/user.gz (Attention: May get large when stats are exported so be aware ) [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Nov 1, 2005 7:14:36 PM] |
