I would be grateful if someone could let us know if it is OK to continue using the Windows version of BOINC for WCG. (Obviously we all don't want to cause any unnecessary problems.) Yes - please use the windows version of BOINC for WCG. We made it available becuase it is ready to be used. |

Kevin, Thanks - It looks like I will wait until I upgrade to Boinc v. 5.2.7. However, I did look at the instructions and they seem to be written using command lines. Will I not be able to go to the BOINC Manager and click on "attach to new project" ? Probably it will be best to see what v. 5.2.7 askes me to do when I want to attach a project. thanks again, Richard Yes you can use the BOINC manager. The instructions were written with the anticipation that most users would be installing it on servers remotely. I have a to-do to add more information about the BOINC manager to the Help section of the website and we might re-do the installation directions. |

It will give you an account key and URL to use in BOINC 4.x. I am using 5.2.5 and it prompted for an account key and URL instead of email address and password. I had tried attaching before I register on WCG site, but my BOINC 5.2.5 was requiring an account key. It appears WCG is using 4.x server software for accounts. Up and crunching WCG I also received an email with account key and URL. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Brian Stansbury at Nov 16, 2005 10:40:47 PM] |

Brian and others,
I have my Account Key. Note: still using Boinc 4.45. Brian seems to be saying I can attach with 4/45. Brian, am I reading your message correctly. I see you are running 5.2.5. I attached using URL: www.worldcommunitygrid.org and my Account Key. I get this: 11/17/2005 10:24:47|http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/|Sending scheduler request to https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/wcg_cgi/fcgi 11/17/2005 10:24:47|http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/|Requesting 129600 seconds of work, returning 0 results 11/17/2005 10:24:49||Can't resolve hostname [https] host name not found 11/17/2005 10:24:49|http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/|Scheduler request failed HTTP insert: -113 11/17/2005 10:24:49|http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/|Scheduler request initialization to https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/boinc/wcg_cgi/fcgi failed, error -113 11/17/2005 10:24:49|http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/|init_op_project failed, error -113 11/17/2005 10:24:49|http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/|Deferring communication with project for 3 minutes and 4 seconds What is error -113? Error -113 is what you get if you try to connect with a version earlier than 5.2.4 [or is that 5.2.2]. There is an article in the Wiki about -113, which shows up for many incompatibilities.
Sorry I am not more specific. I am just starting to learn this. mycrofth |

Thanks about the note about error -113.
This expains the problem I'm having with WCG and nFluids. So you have solved two problems with your note. Therefore, both will be corrected when I upgrade to Boinc 5.2.7. I should have thought to look in the Wiki. Richard |
