Re: Well it's about time for GPU work for years of delay.

Do we have any idea on when or if a statement will be released giving indication as to the day of the first GPU WU deployments?

Based on past history, I'd say we'll now it's coming "soon" once the first Beta test is launched.

Hi:
"soon", what does that mean?. Come on, give us some meanfull quantitative and informative information.
Would your boss be happy if you answered "soon" if he asked you when will the project be finished?

EDV isn't that quit easy.

Yesterday I thought I could configure a little Service and it should take 1 - 3 minutes, but it took 3 hours to get it working crying

"we'll know it's coming "soon" once the first Beta test is launched." means some time after the first Beta is launched. Based on past history, Betas usually last a few weeks to a month or so, IIRC. If there are major issues, then obviously it's longer.

And why do I say that we'll know it's coming soon once the first Beta test starts? Because WCG doesn't have a habit of announcing timetables for anything. So yes, the Beta could be months away but it's only once the Beta starts that we'll know the GPU official launch will be coming soon.

All we can do is wait.

As it is very clear by now that COVID-19 will be endemic (unfortunately), we will have plenty of time solving GPU work units, once they will be ready to launch them.
Just have to be patient. These problems, and the future ones, won't run away from us.

I suspect that the alpha has yet to start so they have to get that out of the way first.

Except it was stated earlier that the security review was the hold up.

I am puzzled what that means. Is that for the protection of the crunchers' machines, or the IBM servers?
Do they have concerns about where the data is going (and what sort of data it is)?

A review for the GPU software.
