Re: Well it's about time for GPU work for years of delay.

Note the article in the WCG website News section, dated 4 Feb 2021:
January/February Update: OpenPandemics - COVID-19
Re. GPU version: "The process of porting the research application code to GPU is well underway as we work to ensure that work units function well and securely before they’re sent to volunteers. The security review of the code is completed."
The GPU version hasn't been forgotten! smile
And fingers plus toes crossed that not all of the 25 compounds identified by OPN as promising, and are being tested, turn out to be false positives. confused
We were supposed to get this 6 months ago. I'm not holding my breath.

Re: Well it's about time for GPU work for years of delay.

What's going on here? One of my machines has 2 AMD GPUs, when it contacts WCG, it says either "Requesting new tasks for CPU" or "not requesting tasks: don't need (CPU: not highest priority project; AMD/ATI GPU: ). Another machine has 1 AMD GPU and built in Intel graphics, it says "Requesting tasks for Intel GPU". Why are they asking for Intel GPU work and not AMD GPU work? They're both in the same device profile, with all options for different subprojects, testing, beta, GPU, other projects etc ticked.

Peter

It is not yet available. There will be an announcement when it is.

I have an AMD RX 580 currently running Folding@home on Covid-19. I would switch to WCG once GPU task is available.

Yes I know that, but since my computers are not asking for AMD GPU work, how will they get it when it's available? Is there a hidden list the server sends to the clients every so often saying what's available? If so, it seems to say it has Intel GPU work!

Since the GPU wu aren't available, the computer won't request those tasks. BOINC doesn't says "no tasks available for GPU", because its not a choice yet. I can't explain why your computer is requesting tasks for Intel GPU.

When BOINC starts and you look in the message log, if the GPU's show up in the list of available processors or co-processors, you should be good to go.

But how will my computer know to ask for the AMD WUs? At the moment it seems to know there aren't any, so isn't even asking. Does the server give it a list of available options? I have GPU units ticked in my server preferences.

You can exclude the Intel GPU from being even considered with an entry in cc_config.xml.

You can select GPU in device profiles under custom profiles.

It's already selected under both my profiles. But since my PCs never ask for AMD GPU work, how will they know when it's available?
