You can select GPU in device profiles under custom profiles. It's already selected under both my profiles. But since my PCs never ask for AMD GPU work, how will they know when it's available? Peter, I have two machines with (NVIDIA) GPUs, and I've recently set both of them to accept GPU work from WCG if available so I had a look at this myself. )They're both on XUbuntu 18.04 at present, but I doubt the O/S makes much difference...) One of them is on client 7.9.3, and if I look at the project properies for WCG the section under Scheduling has three lines in it, thus: Scheduling priority: -0.02 The other one is on client 7.14.2, and it has two extra lines in the scheduling section (about CPU task request deferral), between the Scheduling priority line and the Don't request line. If I go back to Device Manager and turn off the option for GPU tasks, an extra line appears - here's an example from the 7.14.2 client... Scheduling priority: -0.06 If I look at other projects on those machines, CPDN has the same Project has no apps line, and my GPU-only projects have a line saying Don't request tasks for CPU Project preferenceinstead of the GPU lines. If you haven't already done so, I suggest you look at the properties for WCG in BOINC Manager (or whatever other tool you might use) - if you have those "no apps" lines, problem solved (at least, as far as AMD/NVIDIA GPUs are concerned) -- I presume the line will disappear once work is available! Hope this helps - Al. |

Thanks! Yes I have:Hope this helps - Al. Don't request tasks for AMD/ATI GPU Project has no apps for AMD/ATI GPU in Boinc manager's version of the WCG properties, although not in Boinctasks. I assume this line is updated regularly, since you managed to get a line right next to it by changing your preferences. It probably gets transmitted from the server on every contact so your client knows what your project preferences are and what to ask for and what the weighting is. By the way, can anyone remember the days when they were ATI? And can anyone remember what was on the ati.com website at some point (either through them not buying all the domains or someone hacking it)? Clue - ATI was still the acronym, but it meant something else, along with a picture, presumably by a disgruntled user or a Nvidia fanboy. One of them is on client 7.9.3, and if I look at the project properies for WCG the section under Scheduling has three lines in it, thus: The way Boinc works out if there's GPU work is nuts (as with most of their dodgy programming). Did you know Boinc clients think there's GPU work at LHC@home because there's "ati" in the name of one of their subprojects? And I don't mean as one word, it's part of a word, like "corellation"! What programmer thought that would be a good idea?Scheduling priority: -0.02 The other one is on client 7.14.2, and it has two extra lines in the scheduling section (about CPU task request deferral), between the Scheduling priority line and the Don't request line. The guys causing the red tape nonsense should be held responsible for the deaths caused by delays in research.... Peter how do you figure this? Vaccines are already being administered in England for example? ![]() |

The guys causing the red tape nonsense should be held responsible for the deaths caused by delays in research.... Are you aware about the huge effort and performance provided by the scientists and the industry during the last 13 months? Please stop to provide such destructive statement! With all respect due to the patients and in particular to the one not having survived, it is important to realise that many organisations already achieved for Covid-19 in 13 months the effort and the results of, at least, 3 to 5 years research and investigations; even the companies not being successful at this time with possible vaccine candidates. What we do at WCG, with contribution to Covid-19 and other life science projects, is "simply" generating some initial research data for improving deep understanding and for helping to identify possible therapeutic candidates. Maybe, because of faster technology support (such as GPU), we could do it a little bit faster. In all cases, computational improvements shall not jeopardise results meaningfulness and correctness; otherwise the computation will be faster but the results less usable. These constraints have to be considered when releasing GPU science support. Taking longer is also taking time for securing current and future results. Happy crunching, Yves |

@Peter, also, any idea how results may be impacted and research may be delayed when inaccurate data is delivered due to releasing a BETA to soon to production ?
