Concerning my Linux box not getting ARP WUs, it was a temporary issue. It is getting WUs again. Not sure if it was somehow related to my adding Rosetta@home on that machine. I was getting WUs from other WCG projects, though.
I have two full-time (but not exclusively used for WCG) BOINC machines. Each has 4 cores. One runs Linux Mint and the other Windows 10. A third machine (4 cores, Windows 7) runs only overnight from 23h00 to 07h00. I haven't configured that one to get ARP units at all. |

It is unlikely to be because of Rosetta. You probably stopped getting arp when they had a problem at wcg the other weekend. Then, because of the random nature of availability, it takes a while to get back to full production. Hence the suggestion to run shorter units until you get enough.
Also, the size of the units mean that they slow down if you only have arp units. Mike |

After a few days of returns near the 4000 mark, we are now back to around 8000.

I've notice that 008 WUs are running about 6 hrs. longer than the 007 WUs on my machines (consistently). Just saying :)

I have not seen longer runtimes for 008, both have been running about 16 hours for me.

I haven't received an ARP since the last on about 5 days ago. The last unit took over 2 days on the clock. but was completed on time and has been validated.
----------------------------------------I have a good cache of other project so to get availability info, I have changed my projects to only ARP and and have been getting No tasks are available for Africa Rainfall Project messages for the past few hours. I'll check and report back later. ![]() Crunching in memory of my Mum PEGGY, cousin ROPPA and Aunt AUDREY. |

arp are only randomly available so it is not surprising if you get that message. If you are reporting other projects frequently, you should get the occasional arp unit. It is best not to run more than half your threads with arp and/or a third with mip because of capacity issues. It usually takes me the best part of a day to get back to full cache of arp. Mike |

Steve
How many 007's were running at a time and how many 008's? There is a significant lengthening of time with more arp running at once. A maximum of half your threads on arp is recommended for that reason. Also, running shorter units alongside arp helps to catch new arp units when available. Mike |

Thanks for the reply, Mike.
----------------------------------------I made the change in my setup at about midday today after having received no ARP units for two days. If I received any interest from the ARP Gods, I would expect to get only one unit because that is how I have set up my system to operate. Deselection of the MIP1 project was done to ensure that I was not flooded with non-ARP units as I have been over the past two days. I can survive for about two days on the units in my cache (12 threads processing MIP1 at present with previous ratio of 11:1 MIP1:ARP). I appreciate that ARP units are not not guaranteed to be offered, but my experiment will give an indication of the availability of ARP to me. If I let my cache of MIP1 units exhaust itself over the next 48 hours, this will definitely show that your experience is not the same as mine and will inspire me to investigate further. It is your report that you are able to get a full cache of ARP that has sparked my interest and inspired me to venture back into the forum. It is good to see some old names again. Stay safe! . ![]() Crunching in memory of my Mum PEGGY, cousin ROPPA and Aunt AUDREY. |
