I keep forgetting how many "cells" per generation. 35K? 36K? See https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewpostinthread?post=702850[Edit 1 times, last edit by MJH333 at Jun 11, 2025 9:28:47 PM] |

It is exciting to see some "stuck" cells moving again.
I think the pace of ARP WUs has increased. I'm not getting enough to keep my 2 allotted slots busy all the time, but they are certainly busier than they were last week. I just got a WU in the 33k range, and I'm wondering if we will see a new generation on Friday. |

We are currently 97% through generation 146.
Expect generation 147 in 8 or 9 hours from now. Mike |

HELP WANTED!
We are now at the point where I consider that the target date will be limited by the stuck units, especially those in generation 21. My question is: How fast could stuck units proceed once they get released? They would classify as extremes. My guess is that the fastest they would be likely to proceed would be 2 generations per week assuming no further stoppages. That would mean 81 weeks from their restart (January 2027 from now). I will incorporate the resulting consensus in my weekly Sunday Report. Thank you. Mike |

Nice thought experiment.
Assuming that the workunits in the Extreme category get 36 hours to complete, and that releasing 3 tasks initially per workunit is more or less a prerequisite, it would mean that there is a possibility to advance 2 generations per 3 days without any interruptions. Adri |

How much operator time does it take to reassign a grid square to a smaller time step? Do you keep the square at that time step through the whole experiment?
Do you have to "rewind" the square all the way to the beginning, or just few generations before the issue became apparent ? I do hope that when they have time to work on ARP that we will get a good article/update on the science. |

Q1 - Don't know. Q2 - They have previously reverted after 2 or 3 generations. Q3 - Can be done without any wind back but can be done by winding back 2 or 3 generations or go back to the beginning. The standard TimeStep is 36 secs. Various others could be tried such as 24 secs or 18 secs but there are others. Bear in mind that the shorter the TimeStep, the longer the crunching time. I would suggest that they run all 2,000 with 24 secs and 1 generation reversal, see how many clear and run the rest at 18 secs and 3 generations reversal.. After that maybe 12 secs and 5 generations. Just a thought! Mike |

Thank you for your suggestion. Unless there are any more, I will use yours as the theoretical and mine as the long stop. Mike |

There would seem to be a pause before releasing generation 147.
