Thanks Kevin for taking the time to explain the causes of the issue, and for fixing it over the weekend.
I appreciate the work that you do (hope the transition goes smoothly) and the extra time you take to tell us what is going on. |

This was published today, but it was clearly written some time ago.
----------------------------------------"Updated estimated project end A tech issue on the researchers’ servers (successfully resolved) led to a 4-day stop in sending and receiving work. The pace of the Africa Rainfall Project is a bit reduced after the peak in September, so the latest end date estimate is December 2022, but approximately half of a year's rainfall patterns in a portion of sub-Saharan Africa has been simulated so far. Current status of work units With the newer type of report for work units, the status for this project is: Leading generation: 101 Average generation: 94.8 Pace: Moving forward 1 generation every 5.13 days (based on the latest 14-day average)" I'm getting tasks from generation 105, and the so-called 'average' generation has been flagged as 'priority' for a while. Why publish monthly numbers that are nearly a month behind? Can we get today's news update - updated- with today's numbers? [Edit 2 times, last edit by Dayle Diamond at Oct 27, 2021 9:09:11 PM] |

The last status update is on page 147 of this thread. It is interesting reading as knreed not only gives the raw data, but talks about priority and extreme priority(forgot what he called them) WUs. Mike also takes the raw data and gives us some stats and calculates an end date.

The leading generation was 101 on 8 October as per Kevin's update.
Interesting that they have quoted an end date of December 2022, which was what I calculated on 8 October based on Kevin's data then. That has since reduced substantially owing to higher returns. Dayle should look in this thread on 20 October for later data. Mike |

Thank you, Kevin.
----------------------------------------7 days have passed since the last report. In that time, the last of the extreme laggards has moved on 2 generations to generation 019, whereas their leader has moved on 5 generations to 030. The last of the main batches has moved on 7 generations to 070. The current leading generation is 107, up 2 from 105. Kevin's definition of extreme laggard would put their leader as generation 082 instead of 080 which would amount to 44 extreme laggards instead of 59. They are catching up but.the last 6 are not as fast as the other 38 extreme laggards. However, once the 38 have caught up and cleared the definition at about the end of November, the 6 should close up. However, the definition could then be changed to -20 from -25, or even sooner. If it was changed now to -24 that would mean 49 extreme laggards instead of the previous 59. 65,943 units have been validated in the last 7 days (9,420.4 per day), compared with 138,543 results returned, so we have 6,657 more results awaiting validation (the previous figure of 1,304 was supposed to have read more results).. 098 is the latest generation identified as labelled 'priority'. I will base this response on that. If anyone knows of a later batch please advise and I will adjust my figures. 21.9% of the units are in the priority generations. There are now 2,947,235 units to be crunched to finish the project, so we are now under 3 million. The average number of results returned over the last 10 days is up again to 19,609.8 per day, so my target for completion is now calculated as 23 August 2022. This assumes no invalids or errors are included in those returns. It is becoming more likely that we will see the project finish before the end of 2022 due to the efforts to close up the laggards. Thank you Mike (and Kevin).
I’ve just received a 099 which is not priority, so your report is right to count 098 as the latest priority generation. Cheers, Mark |
