MJH saw a 103, but 96 hasn't become priority... when does the priority window move?

Hi Unixchick,
I don't think that the change in priority generations is linked to where the lead generation is. As I understand it, when any unit in a particular generation has been validated, a new generation is created. So if the 103 I am working on at the moment is validated by the wingman when I return it (in about 4 hours time!), then a 104 will be created from that. So the lead generation could potentially move forward quite rapidly if a particular unit is processed straight away by a couple of quick machines. You can see this from the latest report by knreed, where there are 15 units in the lead generation, 455 in the next one, 1596 in the next and so on. I think knreed tries to keep about 20% of the units as priority, so when the priority generation changes will presumably depend on that. There was a discussion of this on this thread in early August. Cheers, Mark |

Presumably adriverhoef's unreliable machines will have dropped off the reliable list now.
Mark correctly attributed the 20% factor to knreed. Kevin hasn't informed us of any change to that. The leading generation is unlikely to move forward fast because the new generation is held until about 300 units are available according to Kevin. Also the leading generation involves slower machines plus some faster machines. Consequently, the leading generation should move forward slower than the stragglers. The hindmost stragglers should move forward at about the same pace as the last of the othe priority generations because they involve the same 'reliable' machines and should close up gradually. Mike |

I have noticed that one of my older machines has been taking much longer processing a work unit - to the point of becoming consistently too late.
It is a single node processor and has successfully been doing these (and other) work units for quite a while. Has the software changed in such a manner to now take longer? |

So far as I am aware there have been no changes. What are the settings in your profile? Set profile to 'Custom' Available Projects - check ARP & 1 other. Cache settings could be 1 & 0.5. Project Limits could be restricted to 1 ARP and 1 other. or just 1 ARP. That way there will be no excessive queueing to eat into your time allowance. Mike |

Mike,
----------------------------------------ARP1_0033899_096_1 arrived as a priority job at 03:33 UTC on 18th October. My most recent non-priority batch 096 task arrived at 11:07 UTC on the 17th... Cheers - Al. [Edit 1 times, last edit by alanb1951 at Oct 18, 2021 5:27:05 AM] |

For me, last non-priority 96 was 1750 UTC 17 Oct and first priority (non-resend) was 0317 UTC 18 Oct.

I am not recording the actual times - just which generations become priority.
The average number of results being returned has increased from 14,740.3 at my last update to 18,031.7 now. This would reduce the forecast completion date by over 2 months to 21 September 2022. Kevin's supercomputer seems to have been active. Mike |
