This post illustrates the problem.
----------------------------------------It is obvious that the preview function gags when being served letters and signs foreign to English/American I intend to post a corrected version below, so you will need to scroll up one step, ErikaT. EDIT: Ugly typo 'foreing' into 'foreign' [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 26, 2017 1:15:58 AM] |

You're absolutely right, adriverhoef
---------------------------------------- Thank you And so it did when I made it and tested it which only goes to prove the claim stated in the beginning of this thread: Lately I have had to repair many dead weblinks in my posts - now I need to study how you linked to the penultimate post (alternative form: pæniultimate) ctr/A, ctr/C Am I the only one in this Forum having this? Should I take it personally? Is some evil Forum spirit trying to silence me? ctr/A, ctr/CEDIT: Yep! this post That's what I wanted to do realizing that 'last post' can be a challenged, fragile, and temporary position. I knew it could be done. I have seen it done, but I don't know how to do it. Therefore I asked about in the above dead link post. ![]() ctr/A, ctr/C - and there we go: penultimate turns pæniultimate even as Wiktionary - the English one states the alternative form as pænultimate, so the Forums will not even accept English stretched to its limits [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 26, 2017 1:12:57 AM] |

little mermaid, This looks like an encoding problem. Can you tell me how in the post linked you inserted the heart character? In that post coming in for that character I see it as "%C3%A2%C2%99%C2%A5" which in UTF-8 is how it is showing. If I enter in hex 2665 I get â¥. U+00E2 â c3 a2 U+0099 c2 99 U+00A5 Â¥ c2 a5 Thanks, armstrdj Yes, I can armstrdj. What I did with this the heart(s) was simply to go to my Forum profile and copy my signature and paste it in my post. I made that signature with the hearts a long time ago and no longer remember exactly how. I think I copied it from Facebook where hearts are a frequently used construction: <3 as far as I remember. I definitely used no special encoding as what you cite ^^ up there - I wouldn't have known how to .... However, as I'm sure you have noticed, the Danish characters æ-ø-Ã¥, the German ü, and the German and Swedish ö are also not stable when hitting 'Preview and/or 'Reply to post' Thank you for your concern P.S. And ironically, the heart you encoded for isn't either, plus the rest of my examples just broke into pieces. I'll let it stay and try to repeat those characters here: Danish characters æ-ø-å turned into æ-ø-Ã¥ The German ü became ü And the German and Swedish ö turned into ö ctr+a, ctr+c hit Preview and see what happens Well, it seems to hold tight |

I just tried to make a post where I would like to link to a page dealing with the word fireworks in Danish which is 'fyrværkeri'
The address of that webpage is: http://ordnet.dk/ddo/ordbog?query=fyrværkeri and that comes out like this. http://ordnet.dk/ddo/ordbog?query=fyrv%C3%A6rkeri When trying to link (that was before I discovered what WCG Forums does to this) the link seemed to 'eat' what was below it in that post. I simply couldn't finish it, so I divided it into two posts. Well, it's a language thread, and it is upsetting for me |

Just struck me:
----------------------------------------This thread doesn't seem to have any difficulties displaying characters and accents foreign to English. EDIT: - and we also have this thread all in German But maybe the posters in these threads know what they want to say, so they don't correct, edit, and Preview ad nauseam, if that's what causes the problem for me [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Oct 26, 2017 2:18:40 PM] |

I have been trying to recreate your issue so I can try and find a work around but I have not had any lucking in recreating the issue. Can you tell me what Operating System, OS language and keyboard layout you are using? Also which browser you are using.
----------------------------------------Can you type one character that has given your trouble before é then if you could try after that to try and enter that character by holding down ctrl-shift and pressing u. This should bring up a little underlined u where you can type e9 then hit space. This should output the character é. Thanks, armstrdj <edit> Just testing to see if any characters change after the edit éé <edit> [Edit 1 times, last edit by armstrdj at Oct 26, 2017 7:16:29 PM] |

These forums have for as long as I can remember been warping special characters, like yesterday when posting with persé which when after posting is turned into persé, so editing is called for to fix this.
----------------------------------------Strangely though, not this time around, as Murphy dictates the rule. [Edit 2 times, last edit by SekeRob* at Oct 26, 2017 7:20:34 PM] |
