Reissued units mean that someone else has tried the work unit and failed. They can be most easily identified by the number on the end of the work unit name. The first copy of the unit has a 0, the second 1 and so on.
I think that HSTB uses a quorum of 2 so unit numbers of 2 and larger are reissued. |

Your lines 1 & 2 at 10:17 indicate that the task request was generated by your system (presumably BoincCmd). Line 1 of 10:19 indicates it was WCG generated. Mike |

Your lines 1 & 2 at 10:17 indicate that the task request was generated by your system (presumably BoincCmd). Line 1 of 10:19 indicates it was WCG generated. I know the ones at :17 and :47 are generated by my script. But what do you mean by the ones at :19 and :49 are WCG generated. Surely my tasks do not routinely end then. And if they did, would not upload commands be interspersed in the log? It seems to me that the boinc client is doing this "spontaneously" and that WCG has nothing to do with it other than happening to have work units available occasionally at such times. See: it often tries twice, though I only request once. In this case, I got a work unit each time. If you ask for work and don't get enough BOINC will re-try after about 2 minutes then at increasing intervals (doubling each time ?).
----------------------------------------Sometimes I get HST on timed call, sometimes 2 mins later. Paul.

I thought I had said that, yet Mike.Gibson said they were WCG generated. It was that that I questioned. Perhaps I was not clear. ![]() |

The second call is not WCG initiated, all communications are a request of the client talking to us. Similar to accessing a web page. The request after two minutes is your client noticing that it still needs work from your preferences. The 2 limit back off time is a setting from us, but the request was not initiated by WCG.
Thanks, Uplinger |

Thanks, Uplinger I wonder... would it be accurate to instead refer to the two types of requests as "Client-Manual" and "Client-Automatic" requests? |

So, in the logs it does print, user update requested. If the user hasn't it is considered the automatic/client determining it needs to connect to the world community grid servers. Thanks, Uplinger |

The log will indicate user requested for script-initiated requests (if you are using that) since it originates outside the client logic.
