I have two machines stuck downloading the project .png files. This problem is preventing tasks from other projects to be downloaded. Here is a snippet of the log from a machine which has run all projects reliably on WCG for several years.

This is also happening on another machine that just got up and running last week. I had trouble downloading some image files from another project when I first connected it to WCG. After finding a forum post about this I was able to work around the problem by canceling the downloads in BOINC and downloading the files directly. Is something like that necessary again? Upgrade to 7.6.29 or higher.

Upgrade to 7.6.29 or higher. Berkeley is currently offering 7.6.22 as recommended; WCG is offering 7.2.47. 7.6.29 is development/may be unstable. Do we really need to run this version (or higher) for OpenZika?  |

Yes we know, its been release candidate for too long. This version skips the non-essential image file downloads when failing.

Since these files are non-essential and I don't really care about the images I aborted the transfers. Everything downloaded fine after that including the other zika project files. I started the Zika work units on each machine and so far they are running fine. I'll post an update if something else goes wrong.

It will come back until you upgrade, or, until WCG puts the final lid on this 'always coming back' issue. Sooo, that's why the check-in was made for the client to then skip these downloads, or as the check-in description says "client: don't count user or project files in transfer limit. We don't want stalled downloads of project image files to block the downloading of job input files."

So...7.6.29 will bypass the failed image file download, but isn't really needed to crunch this then. We have ~7,200 WU for OpenZika and are running many versions of BOINC, but none at 7.6.29.

Some get hit by this, and it all started with something failing at WCG on about October 31, 2015 to eventually end up in this client code work-around, to get people crunching again. If you don't have the problem, don't change, but it is lurking.

I flushed the cache in the CDN to hopefully clear this. We will start looking at pushing new project files into the CDN to try to see if this alleviates the issue in the future.
