Re: Unable to download .png files

We are going through and testing each Point of Presence for the CDN at this time to verify each one has a valid copy of the files. It will take us a bit but it should be stable after we do this.

Try not to have too much fun in the process. biggrin

Re: Unable to download .png files

We have finished testing the files and we had to clear three of them. However, they are now all downloading properly through each point of presence. If someone experiences a new issue with downloading a file, please post it along with your BOINC log file. Thanks.

I haven't been able to crunch anything for about a week now. One task seems to get through if I re-add wcg to the boinc manager. Luckily I have rossetta@home as a backup so my machine isn't idle but I'd rather have wcg running. If you need anything else from me let me know - although I'm not an expert on technical issues.

Re: Unable to download .png files

Saw a comment off-site about the plummeting of IBM Team contribution...

https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewStatsByTeamY.do?sort=points

Few days ago I looked, the team daily was about 115 million points, now only 32 million. Mass migration to ZIKA and not getting the work or stuck in .png download :?

Re: Unable to download .png files

It was caught by the downloading issue also. We are watching it closely to see if it rebounds with the fix in place.

Re: Unable to download .png files

Sorry to see it is not working out. Think you need an internal BAM to boot all those clients into action... Fast track backporting of the 7.6.23 version patch into 7.2.47 looks like a quicker solution than doing the customization cycle for a 7.6.nn release.

Noon stats hint at a resolution underway with 227 years showing.

Re: Unable to download .png files

Noon stats hint at a resolution underway with 227 years showing.

We discovered yesterday morning that the SSL certificate that the CDN is using is signed by a trusted signer that was not present in the ca-certs.crt file included with the 6.10 client. Thus all 6.10 clients (which is what is deployed on many devices for the Sony VAIO Team and the IBM user) could not download new work.

The files that are downloaded via the CDN are verified by the client using the file signatures (either md5sum for slideshow files and workunit files or application signatures for application version files) obtained during the scheduler request (which has been and always will be over https). Thus transferring the files via the CDN over https was not required to ensure the integrity of the files transferred. As a result, we have switched to using http for files transferred through the CDN which appears to be resolving this issue.

We have started early work on adopting a new version of the client. We are hopefully clearing out some other required tasks and will be able to focus on our preparations for that over the next couple of months (which will include updating the IBM devices globally).

The increase in runtime appears to be a direct result of this change. The IBM and Sony VAIO Team users definitely show a improvement this morning which is encouraging. What is more interesting though is that the IBM user is still recovering and is on track to be ~40 years below its average today. The Sony VAIO Team user will be about 3 years below as well. If I take the 227 so far today and double it to get 454 and then add the extra 43 we get 497 years which is well above our recent averages. This suggests that there is a latent pool of 6.10 clients out there that have been inactive and have returned to activity which is a nice boost. I'm hoping that next week we see runtime averaging above 500 years/day. We have been having good signups due to all the media surrounding the OpenZika launch as well so without doing some digging I don't know how much this is because of the 6.10 clients returning to services vs new user growth.
