Zika experts: Varied neurological complications, virus still detectable after recovery

The International Congress of Neuromuscular Diseases (ICND) just drew to an end in Toronto. Among the many questions addressed there were these: How diverse can the neurological complications after a Zika infection be? How long does the virus survive in the body? How is the spread of the infection developing world-wide.

Studies in Mice Provide Insights into Antibody-Zika Virus Interactions

In research that could inform prophylactic treatment approaches for pregnant women at risk for Zika virus infection, investigators conducted experiments in mice and identified six Zika virus antibodies, including four that neutralize African, Asian and American strains of the mosquito-borne virus.
