The XP withdrawing from HST as sub-project option has zero impact, since what work there is does get picked up post haste (Doubtlessly IBM is not running [hardly if any] XP machines, so their internal motivator is near equal zero).

Maybe the techs will, maybe they wont [everything is seemingly according a schedule, and only when there's a large error set [overall], will they switch to re-active mode... and re-actions do at times peter out in nothing changing]. The XP error will doubtless be well below 1% of total. Anyway, don't expect anything to happen until MDDS has passed launch, CEP2 is running again and and and is resolved. Those machines should not get HST WUs in the first place. I have about 40% of my hosts on a 32bit Windows still, as it is not only Windows XP but also various forms of Windows Server 2003, which in a lot of places will not be replaced anytime soon as they are either not directly Internet facing and/or their replacement is simply prohibited by the exorbitant cost involved with it... Well it maybe true that the XP error rate is below 1% total but that is probably because the majority of XP machines are immediately withdrawn from from this project. Sadly. Yes, that's how to skew (or do I mean screw?) the figures. My machine is still opted in and still returning failed WUs, as a protest. I may consider using a standard BOINC build to get round this, but why should I use a less secure version? The effort involved in the techs fixing this seems tiny! |

Perhaps a new thread with a title making it clear 32-bit XP still fails?
----------------------------------------If not already created, I might do this tonight when I get home, fwiw. My 4 XP cores are still connected just not pulling work. Every so often I let some fail. I suppose I could pull one more large batch down and let them all fail, since the timing would be after the supposed fix. But it seems to clutter things up with little benefit... Perhaps a new thread with a title making it clear 32-bit XP still fails? As does 64-bit Server 2003 R2 and Embedded POSReady 2009. For the same reason. The thread is already on the forum: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,39060. If it is too time consuming to figure out how to reconfigure the compiler then Mumaks fix is simple to implement, it doesn't take more than a couple of minutes to patch the two executables. ![]() [Edit 3 times, last edit by Gurra at May 10, 2016 2:04:28 AM] |

Beta underway for HST1... On a good Clint E. day 'Are you feeling lucky', ask question in there about the 6 that needs to be changed to 5 to make it XP compatible.
(Did I read if this hack does not break the running on later than WinXP, or 64 bit Win? DNR) |

FYI - the 64-bit 7.14 HST1 app being pushed out now needs to have this hack reapplied or it will error out on Server 2003 and XP x64.

Project admins: Would you please consider releasing a quick fix to 7.14 64-bit to allow it to run on v5.2 or newer? It is currently set to v6.
----------------------------------------The server keeps pushing out a fresh copy of 7.14 every other download which makes keeping up with having this hack reapplied a very tedious task. ![]() |
