hmm, if this leads to valid results it could indicate a hack protect is not working or in place. Only results which come from an app with the correct checksums need to pass.

I was wondering about that too... and had an idea to patch the EXE to claim 10x more credit :-D But no...

----------------------------------------I still can't figure out how you got this to work. I got down the tool you suggested and have tried several times but with no success. However, I now have a slightly different error in that I now get: couldn't start app: Input file wcgrid_hst1_gromacs_7.16_windows_intelx86 missing or invalid: RSA key check failed for file I tried checking "skip image file verification" in case that helped, but it just went and got yet another fresh copy of the file as it clearly thinks it has been corrupted. I don't think this has anything to do with a checksum in the executable, but an integrity check that BOINC uses to ensure that viruses can't be slipped through the net. So what on earth did you do? Did you put another copy of the file earlier in the path so that it executed that one instead of the one in the BOINC project folder? Hints please! That looks indeed like the BOINC protection against tampering of files. I have no idea why this protection doesn't work for me and the patched file is accepted (I still have the patched version in my projects dir). I'm using version 7.6.22 and when I make a diff of the patched and original file the only difference is at offset 0x158, which is the Subsystem Major version, so it looks like the EXE checksum wasn't needed to be updated and it works...
----------------------------------------And meanwhile both results produced using that EXE were validated, I haven't got more HST1 x86 units yet. It would be much better if the techs would recompile the binary and release officially. |

Maybe [silently] the techs closed the hole ;p
(When they speak up to consider a recompile, you know it does not break anything else... and perhaps another beta :) |

I believe there's no Beta needed as this is just a simple 1-byte change in the header that will just allow to run on XP instead of causing the tasks to error out when attempting to start them.

That would be good, whether or not it needs a beta. I've just seen these numbers from StatCounter for the share of operating systems hitting web sites this April:
Windows 7 44.56% I'd say that's quite a share of the market that's being missed. I'll let you know if I get one to run. |
