To balance the discussed signature owners' notions, Churchill said 3 years earlier in 1945: "The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings". How the USA world looks today! Since the official response appears to be that any political statement in sigs is fine, I guess the best way to test this out would be for everyone to try to come up with new ones like lavabeau's. The bigger and more intrusive the better, of course. |

Digging this thread back up to express my disgust with admins for letting useless political nonsense be allowed in signatures, as well as the members who feel compelled to shove their opinions at me. If I wanted to see political garbage, I would watch TV.
I am a volunteer at what I believe to be a very good cause, coming together to help cure diseases and help humanity. I know I am not a powerhouse of contribution and I am not incredibly knowledgable of BOINC and its inner workings to help others in these forums, but if these political sigs continue to dominate these forums, I will no longer be logging into this site, and may take my resources elsewhere. Isn't there a simple way to allow members to not view signatures, as most other forums allow? |

Science has no political party...so neither should there be one!
----------------------------------------If you want, you can do that privately on a gathering, on your own profile on Facebook, Instagram or whatever...not forum on WCG or SETi@home! This is a science community of donators of their computer time... |

I don't want to enter the politics of the United States.
As Italian I already have enough political problems but I share the thought that this forum it is not proper to decide to vote for the democrats or for the republicans. Let leave them to decide their political fate, to us, the assignment to help cure diseases offering every of us his own weak device! |

Politics isn't very smart. That's why we contribute to science.

Thanks for the support. It is much appreciated. Hello all, If a member has a forum signature, or has posted something, that violates the Communication Guidelines, please use the Report Post icon on the offending forum post - it's the red angry face in the lower right corner. Thank you, ErikaT I appreciate your reply. Reading through the communication guidelines there is a paragraph that follows: Respect your audience. Participants in social communication platforms reflect a diverse set of customs, values and points of view. Don't be afraid to be yourself, but do so respectfully. Do not engage in offensive conduct. This includes not only the obvious (e.g. no ethnic slurs, personal insults, obscenity), but also proper consideration of topics that may be considered objectionable or inflammatory - such as politics and religion. Avoid these topics and focus on subjects that are World Community Grid-related and within the scope of World Community Grid’s social communication environment. Always use your best judgment. I feel that these guidelines are being violated by members use of political signatures. I see that one of the members has removed the picture (many thanks for this) but left the words, while another member left their glaringly obvious picture and in this thread too. Quotes and words are bad enough but can be easily ignored, while pictures are not so easily ignored. Anything political has no place on these forums. There are other places for that. I have political views too, but I choose not to share them on this site, and appreciate it if others would do so as well. I don't care if you are lefty, righty, or somewhere in between, keep it to yourself. On that note, I feel like I have stepped up onto a soap box, and will step back down. |

Hello again all,
When a post or signature is reported, it is always reviewed. If it is found to be in violation of the Communication Guidelines, we take the appropriate action with the volunteer. We try to avoid a complete ban on various forms of speech, and instead remind volunteers of the guidelines. Most of the time, this is a successful approach. As always, I encourage members to report signatures or posts they feel violate the guidelines. Thank you for your understanding and support, ErikaT |
