It's bad enough that the US political cycle is so heavily funded that it runs for about 2 years and infests news broadcasts worldwide for that period, but having US political statements (moreso ignorant and pointless ones, but lets not get into that) splattered around here too is just tedious.
(e.g. "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy. Its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery -Winston Churchill Ponder that before you vote Democrat") |

I second this proposal - after all, we don't ALL live in America.

Definitely.
There are a gazillion other places for those that want that debate and no need to bring it here. Especially because it will persist and intensify all year long. |

THAT is what I was referring to. I know very well where Winston Churchill comes from - you don't have to try lecturing me about British history. |

gb, just another attempt at sidetracking the discussion/suggestion... hit the ignore button :O) [where I think the political sig statement falls under the solicitation rule]. We've already seen a number of off-topic commentaries and additives in various 'support' threads on the respective sig.

Actually, I think I've seen more than one. Political statements in general, not just in sigs, are typically counter-productive in these forums. I've seen too many instances where they've driven folks away. We don't need the science suffering just for the sake of politics. I would hope we're all committed enough to the purpose of WCG to police ourselves but I know I'n only setting myself up for disappointment yet again. It would be great if we could all just hit the ignore "button" but that isn't the case either. It's a no-win situation.
