Re: Can we ban political statements from sigs?

[where I think the political sig statement falls under the solicitation rule]

Agreed. Solicitation and proselytizing are pretty much the same thing, especially as regard to effect.

Actually, proselytizing is worse. If a telemarketer phones me about an electricity company, etc, there's maybe a 1% chance I'll be interested. If a telemarketer phones me selling religion or politics, there's a 0% chance I want to hear about it.

(Especially annoying in Australia is that the "do not call" list that you can put your phone number on is legally binding for companies, but not for religious or political organisations, which means that the two types of telemarketing call that I absolutely never want are the ones that can't be stopped.)

Re: Can we ban political statements from sigs?

It's bad enough that the US political cycle is so heavily funded that it runs for about 2 years and infests news broadcasts worldwide for that period, but having US political statements (moreso ignorant and pointless ones, but lets not get into that) splattered around here too is just tedious.

(e.g. "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy. Its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of
misery -Winston Churchill

Ponder that before you vote Democrat")
This issue is already being discussed by the team. If you have issues with a particular member's signature, please do not call it out publicly in the forums. Please use the 'report spam' link or the Contact Us page to notify us.

I find it funny that the OP has quoted an offensive signature, thereby preserving the quote on these forums long after the US political cycle has ended when, presumably, the signature will change. (And, I guess, I have too. blushing ) Unless the OP is really trying to echo the quoted sentiment in a well-disguised ruse. And, the OP is from Australia, just like iocane powder. Which means, the OP is probably expecting me to realize I should not trust him and be wary of this ruse, in which case the OP is indeed outraged by the quoted signature. But that's probably the exact conclusion the OP wants me to arrive at so that the OP can feign outrage while really promoting the message.

OP, you are clever, but unfortunately you locked wits with the wrong person today. What in the world is that over there?!? shock

Maybe it's time, as the OP indicates, to amend your precious rules, so that the green line takes a more positive turn... https://bit.ly/WCGMACD ... 25 percent more sign ups, and still a perpetuated net loss of active members. Last 7 days 251 gone!

I saw this topic when it was first created, but I didn't see the quoted sig until today. I could answer it in a sig of my own, but I'll just do it here.

In reply...

Churchill said nothing about Democrat and Democrat is not equal to socialism, so the above sig is nonsense/meaningless.

Re: Can we ban political statements from sigs?

To balance the discussed signature owners' notions, Churchill said 3 years earlier in 1945:

"The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings".

How the USA world looks today!

.
There are a gazillion other places for those that want that debate and no need to bring it here.

Especially because it will persist and intensify all year long.

Re: Can we ban political statements from sigs?

The forum signature in question has not been found to be in direct violation of any of our forum rules.

As it has appeared so many times, I was working on the assumption that it was allowed. That's why I started a thread suggesting that this kind of sig should be against the rules.

Again, please use the Report Spam button, or Contact Us page, if you have an issue in the forums.

Thank you,
ErikaT

What would be the point of privately reporting something that you won't do anything about? So that you can privately tell me that you're not going to do anything about it? That's clearly pointless.
