Running Projects

Hi and hope I am posting this in the correct place. I just have a question not sure how complex this is. Is there anyway to run more than 4 projects at a time? I have all my settings set on Max but I can't figure out how to run more than four projects at once. Is it possible?

Thanks in advance!!

You can run all the available WCG projects at the same time, however, CEP2 has specific requirements (it needs the 32bit libraries) and OET1 has a lower priority.

If you have more than one machine, I would suggest using the available profiles to run different projects on different machines. You get better efficiency per project that way...

There are currently 5 projects on WCG, although the Aids project will end soon

Re: Running Projects

Thx Mamajuanauk! I only have one machine I can use. I'm just a person trying to help is all. I don't have access or money for more machines, unfortunately.

I just got a new Windows 8.1 Alienware that runs wonderful and so fast with the community grid projects. Not sure if this information will help but I have Alienware X51 R2 Operating System: Windows 8.1 64-bit (6.3, Build 9600) (9600.winblue_r8.150127-1500) BIOS: A07 Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-4150 CPU @ 3.50GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.5GHz Memory: 8192MB RAM Available OS Memory: 8106MB RAM

The projects run so well on here that I'm able to play games and do other things. I Just thought there be a way to adjust this so I could get more projects done at once.

My other computer is windows 7 but for some reason it doesn't like the community grid. Not sure why but it just runs very slow vs just using the Boinc. Which is why I have not been able to help WCG for so many years.

Re: Running Projects

Hi,

You can only run 4 tasks at a time because your CPU only has 4 cores.
Your other computer - what are the specs (CPU, RAM, etc)
----------------------------------------

AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W
AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W
AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz

Re: Running Projects

I can only run 4 tasks at a time because my CPU only has 4 cores? Odd. When I run Poem@home on either computer it always runs 5 projects at once. Rosetta only four and community grid only four. Any idea how Poem@home runs five at once? Maybe they are just set up differently? It was just something I noticed while trying different projects and made me wonder.

My Laptop is also Alienware M14X windows 7 - 8.00 GB 64 bit operating system. I have Poem@home running on it atm and it always runs five projects. I can run Netflix and do other things and it still runs wonderfully. But when I attempt to run community grid it runs very slow and it's impossible to do anything else on the laptop while it's running.

On my new Alienware 8.1 PC The Community Grid runs wonderful!! It's running in the background as if nothing is running :)

Thanks so much for your fast replies and help!

The fifth Poem@home workunit is probably running on your GPU.

Re: Running Projects

Yes. POEM@home is probably running one task on the GPU and the other 4 on the CPU. WCG has no GPU projects as of now.

What is the project that runs on the laptop? Is it CEP2?

Re: Running Projects

OK! Thanks for the explanation Falconet. My husband will probably know what all this means but I have no clue.

On my laptop I am running poem@home using the Boinc most current version. I'm not sure what CEP2 is. I was just wishing and hoping there was some way to crank this up to get more work done, is all. Maybe that could be an option in the future? Run more projects at once somehow? I hope!!

Re: Running Projects

Okay, GPU is the graphics card. Bsically POEM@home has tasks that can use the graphics card to to the job.

Regarding the laptop - you run WCG and the laptop suddenly becomes slow, when you open the BOINC Manager what do you see? What tasks?

Mapping Cancer Markers, Fightaids@home, Clean Energy Project - Phase 2, Uncovering Genome Mysteries, Outsmart Ebola Together?

Re: Running Projects

Thx Falconet, Sorry. When I open the Boinc manager I yes see the tasks running or I can go into simple view. I have the two options to view and do I understand that.

I am just wanting to help, sorry. I really don't mean to cause anyone any mental grief here. I am married to a programmer and he does help me but other than downloading this and running it I am tech illiterate.
