Eighteen months ago I posed the question
----------------------------------------Will WCG consider appointing new CAs Having been told by the now departed WCG tech knreed Yes - this is something that action is overdue on our part and that we are discussing. 8 months ago jhindo WCG Chief Admin signalled a change in direction in this post acknowledging that many members were stepping forward to provide assistance to others and proposing a new approach of recognizing member support. Since then, in true WCG fashion, NOTHING! In my original post I noted that the list of Community Advisors in the Forum Overview was largely out of date. Despite reminders nothing has changed. In particular the continued listing of the late Dave Bell some years after his death is a disgrace and the failure to follow through on knreed's suggestion of honouring his work, shameful. Just prior to jhindo 's post, in April this year I observed: WCG Techs and Admins have had a higher profile in the forum of late, and this is very welcome A statement that no longer reflects reality. Consider the following activity levels since Oct 1:
Despite the launch of 2 new projects jhindo's last contribution to the forum was Sep 15. It may be unfair to single out gchenna but as a direct replacement for knreed who averaged ~300 posts a year, just 6 posts in 7 months doesn't cut the mustard. So to answer the question in the title Does this Forum still matter to WCG? the answer can only be a resounding NO |

----------------------------------------I remember I applied to become a CA (they said they were going to be calling them something else, not sure what now) but I was later turned down. ![]() - AMD Ryzen 5 1600AF 6C/12T 3.2 GHz - 85W - AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 4C/8T 2.0 GHz - 28W - AMD Ryzen 7 7730U 8C/16T 3.0 GHz |

Johnnie: If WCG took the forum even slightly seriously they would have upgraded the software years ago. In the unlikely event that ever happens, you will know they are starting to take it seriously. Until then however, you can be well assured that they don't despite any protestations to the contrary.
----------------------------------------WCG has always regarded the people posting here as the peanut gallery since so few active users ever actually come to the forum. Of course I think we understand that this is the result of a negative feedback loop but WCG apparently hasn't figured that out yet. I remember I applied to become a CA (they said they were going to be calling them something else, not sure what now) but I was later turned down. I'm curious... Do you know (were you told) why you were turned down?Yes, as much as I hate to admit it, I would agree that the participation of the WCG admins/techs in the forums is lacking. CJSL Crunching for a better tomorrow... |

I was told I was turned down though I don't remember why since I believe this was in last December (so a year since I was notified)

Falconet, jonnieb-uk it has been like this since day 1
----------------------------------------I was a CA but resigned as even having this lofty position IBM does not listenIBM is IBM and could never understand the emotional attachment we have to contributing to the research and science hosted here Social media has come a long way since the 16th December 2004 and IBM need to engage, but I get the feeling they don't know how to. It's a business culture thing. I think IBM would prefer us to just run their "screen saver" and shut up. They never realised there are People out here they would have encourage, recruit and maintain their interest in a thankless task which isn't provided for free. To give this way does cost and IBM need to recognise this colossal giving. I realise this is an enormous commitment too by IBM and a true gift to the Scientists But this amazing fully rounded scientific project, the best of it's kind, is much much more than IBM's Tin and lines of code. It's a Community.... Dave ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by David Autumns at Dec 19, 2014 2:04:42 AM] |

Thanks for the link David. It seems that there is nothing new under the sun and that when it comes to IBM/WCG plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose ![]() |

Dearest Members,
I realize this is a late response - but better late, than never - right?? We are well aware of your desire for better forum software and a 'revised' type of Community Advisors program, and we agree these things need attention. Please know that they are on our 'list' - but as always, the research (and all things relating to it) come first. The entire World Community Grid staff thanks you for all of the time you spend helping other forum members, and donating your valuable time to World Community Grid. Many, many thanks, ErikaT |

I expect that I haven't bumped into the issues that some people are concerned about. I read here (daily), occasionally post and lurk mostly. But, several of you above are quite helpful and I just wanted to say that I appreciate your posts and participation.
Having been on a lot of forums across many subjects, I would say that this is far from the worst, and one that I feel is friendly. The few times that my previous team had a problem with a recurrent individual causing problems, ErikaT took care of it in a very professional way. So, "thanks" to you too Erika. ![]() |
