Well, anytime someone says 'just get over it,' STFU is what I hear. If that's not what you meant then maybe you could explain exactly what you did mean.
----------------------------------------Anyway, as you say, your experience with F@H isn't going to be the same as whatever is happening with WCG, so I'm not sure what your purpose was in even trying to draw a parallel. ![]() ![]() |

If you mean what other distributed computing projects are available, there are scores of them. Just go here to have a look.
----------------------------------------If you mean what other DC projects do the same sort of work as WCG, that's a little more difficult. I can recommend Rosetta (number 4 in the list) as a good project that does basic scientific research. I've heard they have good community relations but I can't speak from personal experience. ![]() ![]() |

No, I won't spend anymore effort attempting to explain things to you. You have so radically missed just about everything that I have shared that it is not worth my effort. |

Perfect answer texinga. Some posters on this forum have so far overstepped the bounds of civility that they do not merit a response.
----------------------------------------Personally, I discount anyone who consistently posts negativity. Not saying there isn't room for criticism and discussion, but I am saying that a strictly negative attitude is not productive. ![]() |

You know, when criticizing organizations like WCG and IBM, it's disingenuous to throw in some random positive comments just to make look as if you're not really upset about the things that matter to you. I prefer being brutally honest, but if that upsets your delicate sensibilities, well, that's unfortunate but it isn't going to change anything.

I prefer being brutally honest, but if that upsets your delicate sensibilities, well, that's unfortunate but it isn't going to change anything. In everything (no matter how bad things may be), there's always a positive - even if it's just the hardworking WCG techs/admins, who are simply between a rock and a hard place. After all, it is they who attempt to resolve issues at all times of the day (and night), putting in the hard work and long hours - only to be treated like a "resource" from those higher up the chain. I'm sure that if they were given more resources and flexibility, they'd be able to achieve a lot more than the fantastic amount than they already do. When I was working for IBM (and I doubt very much that it's improved - particularly as IBM's stock has now been the worst performing for 2 years running), the people down at the bottom (i.e. the "workers"), were asked to perform miracles - yet were "treated" to being "given" a very low PBC (Personal Business Commitments) rating. ![]() |

![]() We do need to consider what happened to the other 85% 72,856 of us are still going, over 400,000 are not Just think how much more we would be doing if we had retained just 50% of them. Follow on GPU projects, after the one and only, and a working Android application would have helped, but this is not just down to technical nouce. It's a people project ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by David Autumns at Jan 10, 2015 3:49:30 PM] |
