That is the point! We are NOT all the same as can be seen from some of the above post, there are many reasons for crunching.....ALL OF THEM ARE VALID AND WANTED biggrin

I tend to agree with you, but there is one thing to be specified: who are "we".

There are lot of people with 20 - 30 or less crunched WU's whose reason form crunching seems to be to ventilate their frustrations and paranoias on this forum. I do not consider "them" as "we" and I do not consider their "reasons for crunching" as valid and wanted.

I am not saying I have never done this, but it is definitely not my main motivation for shrubbing WCG. The altruistic motivator is strong, of course, but, as a KaNI!ght Who Say NI!, I like to be distracted with new (and old) shinny things, so I like badges, points and credits. I like recognition. I am a human.

And that is why I am supporting your initiative Scribe. Give recognition where recognition is due. And I will do my best to reach the conditions to get some part of it alien 2

Cheers peace

From that point of view, it shouldn't be that hard to carve out some space on either the website or the forum where we could have a list of people who have reached particular milestones in recent days.

So you could have a page somewhere that would list milestones achieved for the past week or two in runtime, wu's and points - AND list those in WCG points rather than BOINC points since a lot of people here seem to prefer that method of accounting and total WCG and BOINC stats don't always seem to tally.

This is something that I know Free-DC does and I think that is a one man operation. So if the WCG team can't manage that, I'd say that's pretty sad.

Re: Retention of 'Long-Term' Crunchers.

Am either I or anyone else supposed to know what that stands for? I even tried googling it and couldn't find squat.

You know if you want to speak in your own secret language that's fine, but maybe you should keep it between you and your imaginary friends rather than bothering to post. LOL.

Count My Vote "For".

I would really like to deeply apologize for using such ungoogleable, for-my-imaginary-friends-only abbreviation.

Could you now, please, unhide the meaning of "LOL" you used as a last sentence of your post?

Thank you in advance.

Yours sincerely,

branjo

uh, yeah, so I see CMV"F" and my first reaction was "Google it !". Well the closest thing I found was:
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) is a common virus that can infect almost anyone.
Not sure if that was a complement or an insult wink laughing
ah, OK, CMV"F" = Count My Vote "For". (Going to have to teach that one to Google biggrin )

Re: Retention of 'Long-Term' Crunchers.

Thanks for clarifications branjo and CJSL. I wouldn't have been so persnickety about that but for the smilie that seemed to indicate disapproval. When you mouse-over it, it just says 'not talking' but the overall impression seemed negative.

I'm not accustomed to anyone around here actually agreeing with me about anything, so it rarely occurs to me that it could be a one possible interpretation. Mea culpa. monkey <--me

I don't believe it... twilyth admitting that he was wrong !!! There might be salvation for you after all biggrin.
In all seriousness, it's common for there to be misinterpretations in Internet forums since there is no body language or any expressions. A comment can be read in different ways depending on the intonation you give certain words and of course, the person's current mood.
I tend to try to also put a humorous spin on situations, which usually gets me into trouble (I grew up reading MAD magazine.. it totally gave my a weird sense of humor).
I'm not accustomed to anyone around here actually agreeing with me about anything,
Really? nay, it must be your imagination. devilish biggrin
Your doing OK, by keeping the rest of us honest. BTW, where do you pick up those unknown words (at least to me) like "persnickety" ? I'm wearing a hole in Google looking these things up.

Gotta keep crunching, there's a world to save !!!

Re: Retention of 'Long-Term' Crunchers.

I think persnickety is primarily used in the deep south where I'm originally from. I looked it up to see but none of the online dictionaries seem to be much for etymologies any more let alone word histories. Shame. Webster just says it's an alteration of pernickity and when you look that up the Oxford dictionary says it's Scottish of unknown origin.

In the process I looked at the Merriam Webster definition and although I mostly agree with it, my recollection of the usage was that it connoted an element of impatience which they don't seem to capture. Either that or it's gotten lost, but you can probably imply that from the rest of the definition.

It might be a generational thing, rather than a regional one. I am not from the deep south, but have lived all of my life in the upper midwest and this word is what I would consider common usage. I think the Merriam Webster definition is pretty good, but I agree it also has an air of impatience as with lesser beings, kind of overly particular when not necessary.

Cheers
