Better Recent Contribution Statistics

I love WCG and what it allows people to accomplish together. I love that we, the volunteers, can track our overall contribution. However, I do have a gripe with the currently available metrics on account pages regarding "average" contribution.

Currently, the only available metric for tracking the number of completed results is "Avg. Results Per Calendar Day" which can be a bit misleading as it seems to track the average from the inception of the individual or team account until present. The same goes for "Avg. Run Time Per Calendar Day".

Some members and/or teams go through dormant periods where little work is processed and afterward, once the crunching is in full steam again, the "average" number does not give a real feeling for current productivity.

In order to address this, I propose adding these additional statistics:

Avg. Run Time Per Calendar Day (Last 7 Days)

Avg. Run Time Per Calendar Day (Last 30 Days)

Avg. Results Per Calendar Day (Last 7 Days)

Avg. Results Per Calendar Day (Last 30 Days)

As an example, my individual account displays an Avg. Run Time Per Calendar Day of a little under 3.5 Days. However, since March of this year my Avg. Run Time Per Calendar Day is about 6.25 Days (as measured from my team account since I am currently the only member of my team). This is a difference of about 178.5%, which is very misleading to anyone looking at the statistics on my individual account page.

I think my proposal would give both individuals and teams a more meaningful experience in regard to the "competitive" side of distributed computing. This is one of the aspects of DC which many people, aside from the satisfaction of contribution to research, find to be both enjoyable and a motivator for continued participation. It would give a more realistic evaluation of the "competition" both generally and for the purposes of team challenges.

Thank you. I'm eager to hear what others think about this.

Re: Better Recent Contribution Statistics

You certainly get my vote for your excellent suggestion.

Hopefully, the WCG techs can give due consideration to it the next time they've got a few moments spare (I know it'll take long than that to do - it's just an expression).

Re: Better Recent Contribution Statistics

Or you could capture the stats and do the math yourself. It may be a long wait for the WCG to add this.

Re: Better Recent Contribution Statistics

Agree with you ravenigma.

In the meantime you can find your actual averages on your SNURK's signature.

Cheers good luck

Re: Better Recent Contribution Statistics

As someone who spends a lot of time capturing individual and team stats I fully endorse ravenigma OP. As noted in the OP the Averages presently available are of limited interest.

One minor amendment.

It would be better if (Last 30 Days) was (Last 28 Days) Many members using work/office computers to crunch only have access to them 5 out of 7 days and a 28 day average would better reflect this.
