Re: Word game idea

In all honesty, I can't remember which change to substitutions that that changed. With substitutions being easier and more frequent, resetting the user word list could extend the game indefinitely. Games need to be finite like hexagame.

Re: Word game idea

I'm not sure what you mean by finite. I'm guessing you mean that we want to periodically start with a completely new word matrix.

If so, I see your point, but the problem I see with that is that the used word list will probably become unmanageably long. I mean with word substitutions we could easily have a used word list that could be scores of words long, if not more.

If you go to any anagram solver that takes wild cards like this one , and put in 4 letters, most of the time you will a dozen or more words. So it's not hard for me to imagine the used word list growing quite large after several substitutions.

So if we go that route, wouldn't we at least need a cut off for the used words list? Would you want to make that cut off the point for starting a new game?

Yes. At some point fairly soon, the five five-letter words game will end and we'll start a six six-letter words game. I'll have to keep an eye on the used word list. You have a point about keeping it managable.

Re: Word game idea

OK, but do we have any idea yet how we move on to the next game? The last time we just sort of did it. That seems a little random - unless I missed something.

Also I missed the part about going up to 8 letters. Do you think that might be a little ambitious? We can definitely give it a try and maybe it's not that much of a challenge for people who are used to acrostics but shouldn't we try to be more inclusive? IDK, I'm just asking. I don't have a lot experience with such things.

Re: Word game idea

There are two ways to end a game. If there's no play made for 24 hours, the next player can play the existing game or start a new game. If a player make a play that results in two vertical words, they get to start the next game. As for eight letters, let's see how it goes the first time we get there.

Re: Word game idea

Oh right. I saw the part about 24 hours but for some reason thought that applied to something else. Sorry. I missed the other part.

24 hours seems a little short given we don't have a lot of players, but I guess that makes sense for those we do have.

Re: Word game idea

Greetings,
A question, if I may. Is there a place that I can read all the rules and regs. for this game, on one list?

Cheers,
nap
