Re: Word game idea

You might be right. At the moment the 5 letter word version seems to be working but we might need more liberal rules for moving words around.

Re: Word game idea

I would have probably kept the game at four letters only. It gets difficult to make vertical words as the words get longer.

Re: Word game idea

Why do you think it is more difficult? Is it that your eye loses track with longer words and it's hard to see the vertical ones? I find that I constantly lose track but using the courier font helps.

I think after a while we'll adjust but it would be good to hear all opinions. smile

Re: Word game idea

In the game thread, there are a bunch more words we can make in the last column, so I thought we should consider the rules for substituting words.

I don't think we will be able to make words easily by just doing a substitution so how does everyone feel about substituting plus something else?

The easiest would be to substitute and move other words around at will like we do now but maybe we should have some sort of restriction on substitutions? What do you think?

Re: Word game idea

twilyth, I'm thinking we need something along those lines too. I tried keeping with your original idea but it does seem that the game's a tad more challenging than we were expecting. Not bad though. It's always easier to loosen vs tighten. biggrin How would we want to allow substitution and reordering together? Thinking about it, it would seem impractical to limit reordering to the unsubstituted words. Would reordering any and all words with no more than one substitution be workable? It may be that allowing more than one substitution would open the game up to more like the four letter one as opposed to hexagame.

Re: Word game idea

Agreed. Let's allow substitution and reordering w/o restriction then? Could you update your rules post accordingly if you agree with that?

Let's give it a day or 2 for others to join in with their opinions but I think the idea of loosening the restrictions here should go over well. peace

Re: Word game idea

Thank you smile

edit: I just noticed that the used word list wasn't reset when a new word was substituted. I don't understand that. It would seem to me that once you change the matrix that any vertical word would be fair game again. What am I missing?
