Re: Exciting breakthrough in the fight against childhood cancer!

I got the email and had to respond. While I don't post much anymore, I have never stopped crunching. But I had to pop in to say this is amazing. Congratulations. This is fantastic news.

This is why I crunch. Just for the slim possibility that some form of large screen can find a few gems.

Again, thank you to all crunchers, researchers, IBM, and your amazing staff.

Re: Exciting breakthrough in the fight against childhood cancer!

This is surely one of the most positive results to come out of any distributed computing project so far. It's a real success story, even just to have got to this stage, and I couldn't be more proud to be a small part of it (I got my only 10 year milestone so far on this project). Of course, fingers crossed that some actual working drug for humans comes out of it eventually.

In the meantime, this is a massive story for distributed computing, and health in general. Are people publicising this as much as possible? I've just dropped a link to it on the BBC website in the hopes they'll pick it up (it's happened before - in fact, the story I'm thinking of was nearly a decade ago, so it would make a nice follow-up http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4024931.stm ).

Thank you so much for this great news. That's just awesome. :-)
Please link to the paper at a prominent place as well. I would'nt have found it without checking this thread.

Re: Exciting breakthrough in the fight against childhood cancer!

This is very good news but keep in mind this is just a putting us a step closer to actually putting something out on the market, we still need to go through clinical trials, which is the longest and most expensive part. Its awesome how large scale in silico studies can bring us closer to our goals. Keep crunching!

Great news, thank you very much.
Wish good luck with further steps needed to make the cure available for public use.

Please note we've provided more ways to link to the actual paper within Dr Nakagawara's blog post so that it's easier to find.

Re: Exciting breakthrough in the fight against childhood cancer!

Just wanted to add my two penn'th to say congrats to everyone concerned with this. It's exciting news, and it's just the sort of thing that some sceptics I've talked to have been asking for before they sign up to WCG. Here's hoping this will bring in some more volunteers as well as stepping up the fight against cancer.
