Okay, excellent Syrina, we're making progress ![]() As I'm not actually running version 7.2.39 (I'm still on the WCG recommended version of 6.10.58 - as I'm running Windows 7), I'm hoping that others who are on that version, can chip in and help me out if I'm saying anything wrong here... What I am wondering though, is that the BOINC version which you're pulling up, is the one Maddy56 has installed - and thus, the reason why you may be having challenges in copying the Event Log, i.e., it's not allowing you to access her data. We can check this, by clicking on the Projects Tab, and under the Account column, should be listed your own username. If it's listing Maddy's, then that could explain as to why you're not having any joy with the copying of the Event Log. Also, Maddy56 will be getting the credit for crunching and not you. Also, Maddy56 will be getting the credit for crunching and not you. I'm not so sure - as, if Syrina is logging on, but it's launching Maddy56's version, then it may not actually be crunching anything, due to not having Maddy56's permissions...As I've only got the one Account on this machine (and therefore, I've not personally come across the scenario of attempting to have two (or more) different BOINC sessions on the same computer), I'm having to make loads of assumptions here - some of which may/may not be correct. ![]() |

That does make sense though; in fact, it is the first thing that has. I hope it's not correct, but if it is, I'm sure you will be able to figure out what to do.
---------------------------------------- Also, I went to 'my contributions' and click on projects. Is that what I was supposed to do, because I couldn't find anything that even resembled Account Column. My name, Syrina, came up on projects and stats, though, so maybe that is a good thing. Waiting to hear. Seriously, is there any way in this world that you could remotely get onto this computer? That would be so wonderful!! ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Feb 20, 2014 12:57:52 AM] |

Syrina, it's here (by not actually having the same BOINC version as you), where I'm making assumptions/guesses - in that, when you've got your BOINC session open, you'll have a series of tabs (on my 6.10.58 version, they're called "Project", "Tasks", "Transfers", "Messages" (i.e., "Error Log" in your version), "Statistics" and "Disk"). Do you have one named "Projects" - and if so, is the software allowing you access to it? If you can gain access to that particular tab, hopefully you should see a column (possibly named "Account") with your (or possibly Maddy56) name showing. It's this screen that'll confirm as to what I'm suspecting.
----------------------------------------With regards to the "My Contributions", "Projects" etc., that's the information showing on the WCG website - which is where we're hoping to get information coming through to, but not just yet... Firstly, we need to just ensure that when you're logged onto Maddy's computer, that it's processing WU's against your own userid. As to gaining access to your computer, unfortunately it's not that straight forward, as more software would most likely need to be installed, and IP addresses would need to be exchanged - something which isn't really appropriate for a public forum. Could Maddy be of assistance at your end?, after all, by the sounds of it, she's already been successful in getting BOINC up and running... ![]() |

Maddy installed the software on the computer for herself and then for me. I actually know more about computers than she does, that's why she asked me to help. Hers is working terrifically, though. She didn't understand why mine didn't.
But, ah ha, I just went into 'projects' and it wouldn't let me access because of the 'currently unavailable because stats are being updated' message. I thought maybe hers would be different, but it says the same thing. It says it should be ready in about an hour. That could be the problem, that she is getting all the crunching, but I will know after it quits updating. I will let you know, then we will be able to get somewhere, right? ![]() |

Hi Syrina, the 'currently unavailable because stats are being updated' message is something everyone (including myself), see's at around this time of the day on the WCG website. Once it's updated, it will show as to who's getting the credit for the work processed on the computer (yourself or Maddy), although it won't show as to who's account the work is being processed under on your actual computer - they're two separate, although closely linked items.
----------------------------------------To find out who's getting the credit on your actual computer, we need to check that computer's BOINC settings when you're logged on. Again, I'm assuming, that when Maddy is logged onto the computer, she'll be able to see her account in the "Projects" tab (or it's equivalent), as well as access the "Error Log" data. Question is, when you're logged on, what account is BOINC thinking it's working under? - yours or Maddys. ![]() |

I still think it is impossible. Consider Boinc as being like Word, or Norton, there is only one copy on the machine and when a user logs on they then use it, or in Nortons case it is there running all the time. In Boincs case I believe there is only ever ONE copy and that one belongs to account Maddy. Think of the case when it has been installed as a service or Allow All Users to control.....it is running WITHOUT anyone logged in.....I could be wrong but I think it needs a BOINC expert to rule!

....and if you look at Maddy56 figures it appears that it could be that account for most of the time.......http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewCo...alue=&firstLoad=false
