Hello,
----------------------------------------first of all i would like to thank everybody who contributes to this project! I am using Boinc since about 7 years now and am quite happy with it. The only thing is that i found it a bit unconfortable that BOINC does activate the screen saver with every version update. Untill now that was now problem as i could simply deactivate this in the setting of the operating system again. Now on one of my machines the screen saver setting is handled by a groupe rule and can by changed anymore by a local administrator. As it was turned off, i did not care about this till a further BOINC updated did activate the Screensaver again. I was a little surprised that the OS still shows that now screen saver is used but that BOINC does overrule this and presents me the screen saver, but to turn it off i need to deactivate the groupe rules temporarily. Is there instead a way to turn the screensaver ofF within the BOINC settings or the CC_config.XML? I personally would apreciate if the software would accept the users settings or at least ask for during the installation process and not just decide what is good for the user. Thanks in advance! Have you tried uninstalling BOINC and then reinstalling? Only during the reinstallation process, uncheck the "use screensaver" option.

Hello zaphod79. The only way I deactivate the screensaver is during installation when I click on advanced options. Other than that the only way I would know is to actually go to the display menu in Windows and turning it off there.

Hello Coleslaw, hello vlado101,
thanks to both of you, that solved the "issue". After your hint it was clear to me that i even did see that option in the past but after having installed Boic so oftern i did not check the advanced options anymore but just overwrote the installation with the default settings. Sorry for bothering you with such stuff. You can“t imagine how many hours i spend by searching in this forum, checking the configuration and XML files , trying to tweak the registry and so on. Life can be so easy if you just open your eyes (or you find sombody who helps you to open them ;-) ) Thanks again! Zaphod |
