When they say X number of CPU years, what CPU are they using as reference? (i7 @ 4GHz =! Pentium III @ 450 MHz) I believe the cpu years figure is just the total amount of time reported. Of course an hour of I7 time will result in more work being done in that hour than an hour of time done by a PIII. Cheers

When they say X number of CPU years, what CPU are they using as reference? (i7 @ 4GHz =! Pentium III @ 450 MHz) When THEY (WCG) say the X number of CPU years it means "an average Time-to-completion (TTC)". What is average TTC? check here: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/stat/viewGlobal.do you'll find that nominal average for whole of WCG. What does that mean nominal average? Run Time Per Result (y:d:h:m:s) 0:000:04:02:48 Find out which computer/device has a 4h average run per WU, with about 130 points per h of run time & average about 520 points per result (WU)...and you've found the processor that is average for complete WCG! Hope it helps... |

Of course no such computer exists because this is a 10+ years average, when WCG started out with single core P1/P2 being common. A closer reference would have been to point the member to the project specific stats of MCM which are CPU only at that. On average, till now with 501 days under the buckle, it has taken 4:23 hours to complete a MCM task.

Thanks for the update Sgt.Joe ! 71% for you vs 75% on the research page From what Rob said, the 75% is OK... I am calculating on what has been returned. I speculate the research page is calculating on what has either been issued or has been queued for the feeders. There is potentially about a 7 day difference (probably less) which accounts for all of the "in progress" WU's. Since I have no way of knowing how many WU's are sitting on crunchers' machines, I base my figures on what has been returned. Thanks for noticing. Cheers It is what has been loaded into the feeder. That is what Uplinger mentioned sometime ago about it. |

Re: MCM1 Progress Reports - March 29, 2015 Update
----------------------------------------The following figures are based on a total number of work units of 350,000,000 from cubes. Last 30 day average results: 537,361 Estimated end date using 30 day average: September 18, 2015 Percent Complete: 73.19906% The average length of a WU is currently running about 5.34 hours. If I look at the latest batch I have received, 12811, that would be about 73.21% complete. We are at about 5.82 more months of additional crunching at the current recent run rate. The last week continued to show a remarkable stability in the average length of a WU to just under 5.5 hours. The completion date has slipped a little further into September. MCM1 is certainly continuing to get the lion's share of the crunching power. We upped production slightly last week to about 3.44 million WU's for the week. Crunch on. Good crunching everyone. Cheers

Re: MCM1 Progress Reports - April 5, 2015 Update
----------------------------------------The following figures are based on a total number of work units of 350,000,000 from cubes. Last 30 day average results: 502635 Estimated end date using 30 day average: October 1, 2015 Percent Complete: 74.13698% The average length of a WU is currently running about 5.37 hours. If I look at the latest batch I have received, 12972, that would be about 74.13% complete. We are at about 6.03 more months of additional crunching at the current recent run rate. Once again the last week continued to show a remarkable stability in the average length of a WU to just under 5.5 hours. This has been holding remarkably steady now the last three weeks. The completion date has slipped a little further into October. The Easter weekend has probably had an effect with many businesses having an abbreviated week. Production slipped slightly last week to just under 3.3 million WU's for the week. Crunch on. Good crunching everyone. Cheers
