Re: Interesting News Articles About Cancer

This is probably related to this project's determination of markers for different types of cancers:

Biotechnology company Moderna Therapeutics and drug maker Merck are developing therapeutic vaccines using messenger RNA that address unique genetic patterns in patients’ tumors.

Re: Interesting News Articles About Cancer

Researchers from the University of London have found that a drug used to combat addiction may also be effective at killing cancer cells. The discovery has wide implications for cancer treatment, given that the drug of interest is naltrexone, a drug widely prescribed for addicts.

Magnetic Bacteria Ferry Chemo Drugs to Resistant Tumors

By combining nanotechnology and the wonderful world of microbiology, Canadian scientists have created something truly unique in the field of cancer medicine. Specifically, they leveraged the power of magnetotactic bacteria to create nanorobots that deliver chemotherapy agents directly into the tumor, even into the hardest to treat areas.

Re: Interesting News Articles About Cancer

That picture definitely does not fit on my 1024 pixel wide display shock

Science news and medical in particular seems to call for trying to twist it into some national origin [in common, lying by omission], and this one no different (but what does it matter long as the treatment becomes available 'abroad' too). A new treatment was confirmed in a 500 patient study with Kahler patients (an incurable bone-marrow cancer).
The daratumumab combination reduced the risk of cancer progression by 70%, and doubled both very good partial response rates from 29% to 59% and complete response rates from 9% to 19%. Daratumumab, the first monoclonal antibody approved for multiple myeloma, targets a protein on the surface of cancer cells called CD-38.

It was in the foreign news over a year ago, but now it's efficacy was confirmed in this USA study https://www.asco.org/about-asco/press-center/...en-slows-multiple-myeloma

Re: Interesting News Articles About Cancer

Dr Messiou told the BBC: "It's a study of cancer evolution over 200 years and if we're honest we don't really know what we're going to find.

Short version: samples taken from 200 years ago are recently confirmed to be cancer. The next step is to put the sample through various kinds of tests to see how cancer has changed over such time.
