Re: New Design - Observations and Notes

The links only seem to be messed up when starting the browser with a font size of 13 or higher.

BobCat13 - Thank you! I can reproduce reliably now so we will get this fixed.

Re: New top line (settings) is not always displayed

I don't see any value in splitting the old menu bar into 2. One menu above the banner and right-justified and another menu below the banner and left-justified. I think it was better with all in one menu. Moving everything to one menu above the banner would be good since the banner is different heights on some pages.

Totally agree. (And make the banner smaller, as it's a big space-waster.) A related issue is that the "Research" drop-down is very long, which means it isn't even all accessible in any nice way. If I hover over it, I can see 2/3 of the entries, but there is no way to get to the rest other than to press "end" or multiple "down-arrow" to scroll the screen, so that the drop-down list scrolls with it.

Having to constantly re-login to access all the items under Settings is annoying, especially the device manager which I use very often. Odd, even though I have "remember me" checked, the website doesn't remember me and I have to login over and over.

You can bookmark the device manager link and go directly to it. (... But what does it say about a site when bookmarking internal links provides better usability than their own navigation?!)

Kevin, if there's a way to get the drop down back when mouseover on Forums and Settings, that might well address those concerned with the loss of being able to go directly to recent threads or device manager/profiles. I understand wanting to protect a user by having them login again when changing any settings but the login page can be displayed first when going directly to something like device manager. As for myself, I can understand splitting the bar and the extra security. A couple of extra mouse clicks is not a problem for me.

This has been fixed. Please report if you have further issues. Note: With a large font size as the minimum the utility navigation bar may wrap, but it should now be accessible and clickable.

Re: New Design - Observations and Notes

When I sign in by clicking the WCG Widget it takes me to the following url:
http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/widget/logoClick.do?page=index
( the url is built into the widget )
After filling out the sign in popup it does indeed sign me in, but it then takes me to a screen showing the following:

Error

The application is unavailable at this time, please try again later.

Your action has resulted in an error.

Links on this error screen work normally so this is not really a problem, just a cosmetic SNAFU.

Win Vista
IE 9

EDIT: Just tried with Chrome on Android and the Kubuntu rekong browser and all did the same.

Re: New Design - Observations and Notes

Is that shrink / expand feature in Help / Research FAQ's something new? Only noticed visiting the MCM FAQ's, then checking under SNS2 FAQ, same thing... First click on a topic link expands the section paragraph, second click shrinks it. Clicking on a different topic, leaves the previous viewed expanded... now looking for some spiffy way to expand everything with just one click as to prevent mouse cramp and just read through all, the old fashioned way hitting the page button once in a while to leaf past.

Re: New Design - Observations and Notes

The MCM Project FAQ page has "Expand All | Collapse All" on the right just below "Mapping Cancer Markers".

Re: New Design - Observations and Notes

Right, a lazy eye day, did not look in what others deem logical spots [slid off the screen], "over the top", haha... Why scan and navigate when some key-stroke combo would/could make it so much faster, like FF has an auto-scroll option, at read speed ;>)

But thanks for guiding.:D

Re: New Design - Observations and Notes

Just noticed that when the stats are being updated and you get the XX minutes screen, the old menu displays (no utility bar).

Re: New Design - Observations and Notes

Did not try to remember if noted before, but if the Utility Bar right top for Forums and Settings could be fitted with little drop-down menus, it would reduce the amount of navigation [which my feel is, has increased... more mousing footage to add, which noone would consider as an enhancement of the experience]. Of course, Javascript is enabled for this site [NoScript controlled in FF on a site by site basis].
