Arriving Monday! Two 12 core E5-2697 V2 Ivy Bridge Xeons

I've been waiting for a pair of these beasts for months but trying to get a pair without writing a check for close to $6000.00 took a lot of finagling.
Besides, these piddly 8 core E5-2687W V2's are only at #16 according to BOINC stats RAC so the only way to move higher is more cores or LINUX and I'm a confirmed windows guy. biggrin
Oh,speaking of linux, I will give you folks a chuckle.
A few days ago I hear my door bell ring and there's a package there.
I'm not expecting anything so I have this "Duh" look on my face as I look at the return address and open it up.
Inside is a Kingston HyperX 120 gig SSD and I'm still standing there trying to figure out the why's of all this?
A little later that day a good friend messaged me when I mentioned this to him" Don't format the drive" which caused me to do another DUH and what the heck is going on.
It seems that my friend in England Old Chap got a little frustrated after spending 2 YEARS telling me to try Linux on a cruncher and me saying "Yea, I will sometime" so he got together with another guy, did a linux install with WCG and sent me the all set up drive.
God Bless his heart! What can you say to people like this except Thank you which never seems to convey how you feel but it's all you have.
Now I have business comittments to run on these new 12 cores but after that on goes linux and we'll see if the best Intel dualie system money can by overclocked to the stable limits can knock off those quad socket Enterprise class AMD's and Intels at the top of the dailies.. biggrin

LOL, No, he is with IBM at their research center in NY state I beleive.
I'm just a little blue collar guy and even if I had the machines to match him I couldn't afford the electric to do so..I think the max I ever had running here was 6 machines and thats a long time ago.

I want to see if I can out do Buck Nasty's 64 core machine..
It will be interesting but I think I will need linux to do that if I even can.. Beating 64 cores with 24 is a big stretch! biggrin
Oh, speaking of AMD I have two 6386SE's sitting here that will go into a Asus KGPE-D16 board,,32 cores at 3200,.,.
I kid you not, they were a unexpected gift from a guy I only knew to say hello to 1/2 way around the world from me..
