According to the 'documentation', running BOINC without battery is on the wish-list. It does as yet not do that, as you found.
For those who're interested in reality numbers, now got over 60 days of daily data on Android, and we're back in contributions to when starting to measure by ruler http://bit.ly/WCGAndroid . It does not seem to last long, at probably a similar percent as for those running the PC client. The fad wears and the daily credit has dropped to it's lowest for active devices since launch. So much for what was yesterday in the news "the most used operating system in the world". Android Blows Past 80 Percent Market Share (Nov 13, 2013, 13:00) (1 talkbacks) OSTATIC: With a total base of 211.6 million smartphone units shipped during the quarter, Android accounted for 81.0 percent of all smartphone shipments. |

Actually what I meant with not running without the battery was that the phone needs to have the battery place in in order to boot.

I am wondering if SekeRob's data is reflecting how many people have moved their devices to projects with a smaller memory imprint. I know from my experience, my Bionic was a lot more responsive when I ran Asteroids and had LAIM turned on. My Galaxy S3 hasn't been sluggish with any of the projects so far. However, the S3 has more RAM.

BOINCstats showing 17,072 Android devices using WCG, which places it at 9th place (out of 33). GO TEAM, GO !!! CJSL 19th of course, and Android now climbed to 18th spot in total contributions for an OS. It will take a long time to 17 as the gap to the next one up is big, plus there's one in between that makes almost equal credit average which is quite a bit ahead. There is a bit of a rebound in registered devices, but more importantly, the increase in credit from active devices. Hopefully this sets a new trendline upwards into the winter season. http://bit.ly/WCGAndroid The key for valid results [surely too many invalid putting volunteers off], does seem to be to not want to run multiple tasks at same time [on duo/quad]. Go back to run 1 to see if results go valid. Much more gratifying. |

Uh.... actually it depends how you order the stats... Android is 18th if ordered by number of points, but since this thread is about installed android devices, if you order by "Num of OS's", then android is currently in 8th place with 17,919 (so no broken keyboard condition).
