Many "computation errors" on my Galaxy S3

Hello,

for many tasks I get "computation error"s. Can I do anything to fix it or is it a bug?

I added a Result Log below. The others seem to have the same error "signal 9", whatever that means.

Greetings from Germany, Tom

Re: Many "computation errors" on my Galaxy S3

Hello Tomchen,
Several people have reported that their computers produce results with error 195. "process exited with code 195 (0xc3, -61)" WCG Tech armstrdj posted that this bug is being worked on at https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/...ead,35501_offset,0#429323

I would run just 1 thread at 100% CPU for ease of cooling.

Re: Many "computation errors" on my Galaxy S3

Thank you for the quick response.

It seems, that I can only adjust the number of used cpu's, not the number of threads running. I know, that VINA can run single tasks on multiple cpu's. Is that true also for the Android app and how can I adjust that?

Re: Many "computation errors" on my Galaxy S3

Hello Tomchen,
Terminology. smile I am sorry if I confused you. One thread is assigned to one CPU. If you have 2 or 4 CPUs, try to use only one. Select My Grid - Device Manager - (Selected Profile) and pick the profile used by your Android device. Then select a decimal fraction (0.50 or 0.25) to reduce the number of CPUs running BOINC to 1. Different devices have different cooling abilities, so I like to start with just 1 BOINC task at a time and work up from there.

Re: Many "computation errors" on my Galaxy S3

I monitored the results of my smartphone and it seems, that it only produces errors. Till now my smartphone got about 150 tasks of which about 145 returned an error, only one is in pending validation and 4 are running.

I tried to run only one cpu, but nothing changed. I think there seems to be a large problem. It is not very useful to have this device run the app most of the time if it only returns errors. How long do you think will it last, till this problem is solved? Like this the app is useless for me.

Re: Many "computation errors" on my Galaxy S3

This does not seem to be a general problem with the S3. So far I've returned nearly 300 results (BETA and FAHV) with 32 days of CPU time from that device and I have had exactly 1 job with an error, plus perhaps a good handful of invalids.
However, I do use only one core as it doesn't seem to make much sense running more than one (task run times are simply multiplying and the phone gets hotter -- or has to suspend more often to cool down).

How much are you guys using your phones while crunching? Does BOINC get suspended very often? I have a suspicion that when BOINC is already suspended and the memory is used up -- due to other apps running -- that BOINC simply gets kicked out in that case (icon in the top left corner is disappearing). And if that happens too often, a task might just get cancelled.

Therefore you might also have a look at the number of apps running in the background. Just press and hold the button at the bottom centre until the app list opens, then swipe all the apps you don't need at the moment.

Re: Many "computation errors" on my Galaxy S3

I reduced the cores to 1 and 2 and nothing changed. On my PC BOINC is also handling usage with other programs and all is working fine.

So still the question: When will the problem be solved and meanwhile should I kick the app of my phone because it is only producing errors?

Re: Many "computation errors" on my Galaxy S3

Hello Tomchen,
If it does not work on your phone, you should either remove it or disconnect from WCG. Eventually a fix may be announced, or you may get a different phone, or . . .

Do not frustrate yourself by running something that does not work on your phone.
