I've got a few computers crunching WGC units. Mostly, they're all pretty efficient in performance per watt terms, so I feel reasonable comfortable to donate electricity to a good cause.
----------------------------------------However, I also have a free Amazon EC2 instance. This is pretty feeble in terms of its crunching potential. An FAAH unit that takes under 2 hours on my Haswell Core i7 can take ~25 hours on the EC2 instance. So basically, it's useless for points/results, but great for runtime... and we all know what runtime makes... shiny coloured badges! So basically, am I being a bad person by running this free EC2 instance, or is this just reasonable use of the available facilities?

Evening, been reading the UK teams posts from the begining actualy makes good reading, all l'v been doing is just scrolling down till l see a interesting read.
Noticed a couple of things, One the Die Hards that are still going now from the start you know who you's are my hats off to you's thats dedication for you. Secondly how polite and friendly you's are and even now after all these years nice one a credit to you's. Thirdly the systems you used even manerging to run one or two machine's and how the PC has developed over the year's, just keep on crunching peep's. Well still have a few thousand posts to get through just reading a few post's every night. ![]() |
