Re: UPDate >Dell Precision T5500 Xeon 6 Core Build

Before you commit, check if you can get a barebones system that will take 2 CPU's, even if you don't have budget approval for the extra spend now, it's an easy upgrade when the funds are available. I don't buy any single processor systems any more. The ones I have left are 3 & 4 Ghz so nice fast machines, but are more power hungry than 1 dual processor machine with 16 threads.

Thanks for that tip about the mobo Mamajuanuk will do. smile

Re: Beta Testing

Hi KrisUK,

If your machine(s) receive a bets WU you will know because the name will start with the string BETA_ and the application name will probably have the word beta in it too.

You can read about what the techs are asking us to do (if anything) in the beta test forum. Usually a read-only thread is started to announce the beta test, and another thread is started for us to record our experiences.

It looks like all the initial beta WUs have already gone out for this test, but there may be resends and there may be more WUs released later. I'm afraid it's pot luck as whether you get any or not, so don't be too disappointed if you don't get any this time around.

Re: Beta Testing

@ KrisUK

In addition to what Apis TT said above it's worth noting that download of BETA WUs is limited to 1 per core. When a completed WU is returned a new BETA WU can be downloaded (if available)

The latest BETA WUs looked like this: BETA_ OET1_ 0000296_ xZAGP_ 1749_ 0--

BETA test

@ KrisUK (and of general interest)

Last night's BETA test saw the supply of WUs exhausted in 1½hrs which is about normal. sad

Getting BETA test work is very much "luck of the draw" - if your machine requests work will the supply is still good then you have a chance.

One way to increase your chances is to set a 'non-digest" Watch on the Beta Test Announcements [Read Only] forum

This will generate an email alert shortly after a test is announced. Then if you access your machine you can do a manual Update in BOINC Mgr hoping the supply is still good.
The latest BETA WUs looked like this: BETA_ OET1_ 0000296 _ xZAGP_ 1749_ 0--

uplinger posted
workunits with 298 in them are the start of the flexible work units.

295, 296, 297 are rigid work units with more than one job per workunits.

298 will only have 1 job per workunit. They are more complicated and may run longer.

Good to see ApisTT providing chapter and verse on his BETA tests smile
