The summer is not being kind to the UK Team! sad

Currently we have 125 "Live" members (crunched since 1 Dec 2013). This includes 16 members who've joined (and crunched) since Jan 1 2014.

But
42 of these "Live" members have fallen into InActivity 13 of them since the start of July. crying

15 of the new members this year were/are DOA and of the 16 members who joined and crunched 8 are now InActive crying d oh

Maybe things will get better once the summer holidays season is over..

FWIW, I've tried (and failed miserably) to recruit work colleagues and facebook friends to join WCG. No interest whatsoever, which I find sadly strange.

Re: In Other News

Hopefully it is just a short term loss of crunching. I know I've said it before but I really don't understand why anyone would go through the sign up to WCG and then join the team yet not install.
Surely there isn't any automatic way to do the sign up, like many forums have problems with spam bots?

Re: In Other News

My gut feeling is that Mr Average signs up and wants instant gratification. Given that average length FAAH & MCM1 WUs run 3+ hours it requires some patience. I'm not sure if DOA covers someone who installs and downloads work but aborts before completion confused I suggested a while back that on initial sign-up the default project choice should be the shortest running project. I recall that sometime ago FAAH autodock WUs were deliberately lengthened to reduce server load. Since server load must have declined markedly since that time, shortening the length to around 1.5hrs would be welcome move that might help reduce the incidence of DOA.

I wonder if people think that all they have to do is sign up, and thats it, they're contributing. Not realising they have to download & install the client.

I don't remember the process for joining - it's so long ago. But is it:
Sign up & then download the software. Or download the software & then sign up.

If it's the first option, maybe the joining process should be changed, so one has to download the software first, then think of a user name etc.

Re: In Other News

Mornin........................ biggrin
When I joined DC there was not a lot of stuff around, SETI being the main. Then UD came along and as the first 'cancer' cure it attracted large numbers.......even when BOINC was invented the number of projects was minimal.......perhaps there are just too many to go around......or........peeps with tablets etc are taking over and they cannot cope as many of them tend to be used on battery and we all know how long they can last.............. confused

Re: In Other News

Morning all! smile

Well, tried to order that dedicated server earlier in the week, but it seems their ordering process is full of nice holes - as such, the order still hasn't gone through, and the server-spec I was looking at is now marked "out of stock" again! One day, maybe, it's not been a great advert for the company I've been looking at renting the server from! sad

Re: In Other News

of the 16 members who joined and crunched 8 are now InActive crying d oh

Interesting stats for 5 of the 8:
scott1es 0:001:17:47:11	1,493	3
Tom Tirins 0:001:12:02:59 1,099 3
T_kirby 0:001:03:38:37 1,087 2
sukhwinder singh 0:000:22:10:49 664 2
rick1417 0:000:13:09:49 454 3

All remarkably similar RT:Res ratio.

Looking at the RunTimes I think either they all ran CEP2 or possibly they all had Android devices?
